D&D (2024) Mike Mearls “…it’s now obvious how to live without Bonus Actions”' And 6th Edition When Players Ask

I'm torn between playing 5E with a bunch of stuff from prior editions (except 4th, which I don't own) or playing PF/3x and importing what I want from 5E and pre-3E. I really think 5E is winning the fight, in my mind at this moment. 6E would have to be practically perfect for me to consider it...

    Describing Non-Physical Hitpoint Loss?

There are two explanations of hit points that I like. The first is from AD&D, by Gygax, himself... (page 82 of the AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide) Apparently, metaphysical hit points take just as long to heal as physical hit points. And, the second can be found, here...

D&D 5E Attunement & New or Converted Items

Thanks, everyone. Each point made is appreciated and I believe it will help me, significantly. Here are the points made, so far: Requires Attunement ● All cursed items (Satryn) ● Any weapon or armor of +2 or better (cmad1977) ● Any weapon or armor of +1 with an extra or two (cmad1977) ● Any...

D&D 5E Attunement & New or Converted Items

When creating homebrewed magic items or converting items from other editions, what are the factors that should determine whether or not the item should or should not require attunement?

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Feats that 5e Gives Characters for Free

Thanks, Jester David. You're right about casting in armor. And, that's the point of using the PF rules over the 5E rules. In 5E it's much easier. So much so that it isn't special. In PF RPG, a character must earn it and must pay the cost. But, I'm not all that concerned about killing...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Feats that 5e Gives Characters for Free

3X and its derivatives are certainly balancing tightropes, for sure, Lylandra. That's one reason I moved to 5E as a base, for a long while. It was more forgiving, balance-wise. However, the main player in my group longs for more options and a return to BAB. He wanted to go 1E, but wasn't...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Feats that 5e Gives Characters for Free

Excellent points on Dex to damage, Saelorn. Definitely hadn't considered some of those, especially the TWF issue.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Feats that 5e Gives Characters for Free

Hi, Saelorn, Having spent some time looking into this, today, it seems that Dex to damage is very hard to get in the PF RPG. I read some discussions about how allowing it can make Strength a dump stat. Although there are a few ways to get it, mostly related to being a dervish swashbuckler...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Feats that 5e Gives Characters for Free

Hi, everyone. One of my players, pointed out that one of the strengths of Pathfinder is that it doesn't give these things to all characters for free. He feels that mages fighting in armor should be extremely rare. Just gaining the appropriate armor proficiency isn't enough to avoid possible...

Big creatures "moving out" of threatened area

Thanks, Aaron! Been a long time since I thought about DnD in purely 3X rules.

Big creatures "moving out" of threatened area

Interesting. I thought involuntary movement could provoke AoO's in 3.X? Do you happen to have the source for the idea that involuntary movement doesn't provoke?

    Fort saves on HP loss?

Sounds like a variant houserule. Here are some samples from Unearthed Arcana: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/massaveDamageThresholdsAndResults.htm I like that you're DM is having the wounded character drop to zero hp rather than dying outright. I like the disabled state and...

Undead Master (AD&D) to 5e: Conversion possible?

Sounds very possible. I don't have the book in question, but I'd start by listing out everything the Undead Master should have and look for nearly equivalent abilities to use for rules text. Add the usual ability score boosts at the same levels as the wizard; adjust weapon proficiencies, edit...

D&D 5E Pathfinder to 5e: expected power level and low level surivability

Hi, Nightspaladin. I've been trying just that ever since getting the 5E Player's Handbook as soon as it was released and I think I agree with much of what's already been said. Ultimately, having tried it for a couple of years, now, I've decided to just play Pathfinder when I want to run 3X or...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Feats that 5e Gives Characters for Free

I think so, too, Schmoe. Our group is planning on implementing these changes the next time we play. We've been playing a mashup of 1E and 5E, but now we're returning to Pathfinder, but we're keeping a few things from 5E (and a little from 1E).

Pathfinder 1E What Made You Switch To Pathfinder?

Ultimately, I loved 3X and I saw Pathfinder as an extension of 3X. 4E wasn't for me. At first I loved 5E, as it seemed simpler, but I kept coming back to wanting everything from 3X/PF available available for use. Converted PF stuff to 5E for a while, but overall I'm tired of converting...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Feats that 5e Gives Characters for Free

Thanks, Saelorn. I think that's what I meant with "Weapon Expertise." And, you're right. That's a big one. And, easy enough to houserule that all PC's receive it for free (including the Dex bonus to damage).

D&D 5E How do you use maps with room numbers?

Alternately... You could describe each room as having a huge number carved into the floor by the buliders of the dungeon!

Pathfinder 1E Converting 5E monsters to Pathfinder

I've done some basic conversions of monsters from from 3X/PF to 5th, but only the attack bonuses and saving throws and skills, when necessary (leaving almost everything else as is). Going from 5th to 3rd, would be harder. Creatures with natural armor would need a lot more added to compensate...
