[Trailer] The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Good trailer overall. I still have yet to see the first Hobbit movie, though.

Game of Thrones Season 3 Finale "Mhysa" (Warning for leaked spoilers!)

I enjoyed the finale. I understand the showrunners wanting the season to end on a more positive note than the last episode. Glad they held off on the reveal of Lady Stoneheart.

Game of Thrones Season 3 Finale "Mhysa" (Warning for leaked spoilers!)

A couple of excellent productions - one is a cosplay cover of the theme song with some good fx for a direct to youtube video. Loved them having Lyanna Stark playing the piano at the end. http://youtu.be/hplyu6JTJA8 The second is a Game of Thrones themed birthday party for kids (warning -...

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

According to the the Complete Fighter's Handbook, the best you could do without ambidexterity is to be 0 for your primary weapon and -2 for your offhand weapons - and, that is from devoting 2 WP slots to 2 weapon style - one to get the style, which brings you to -2/-4 and then another to...

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

Again, your 2E games differed from mine - it was rare for any warrior class to have an 18 STR, since we rolled 4d6 and kept the best 3. So, 18+ strength was the exception (18 in any ability, for that matter, unless you were a demihuman). I think you also needed ambidexterity to get no penalty...

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

I feel like an oddball then, using the internet to meet women in the mid to late 90s - including a few fairly serious relationships.

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

We used AoOs in 2E, but it was strictly limited to leaving/retreating out of a "threatened" square or hex (we usually used a hex map in 2E). No AoOs for casting or shooting an arrow next to an enemy, but your risk of spell disruption was far greater in 2E than in 3.5E - even 1 point of damage...

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

Did you use the segment casting time for spells, though?

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

Believe it or not, the same DM I mentioned above being my 2E DM used miniatures less with 3E, especially for the smaller combats. With 2E, we kept the minis on the table on the battlemat, in marching order at all times. With 3E, it was not always the case.

Game of Thrones 3.9 "The Rains of Castamere" (spoiler alert)

The Freys are not considered an important enough family to have received Myrcella or Tommen's hand in marriage. Tommen was second in line for the throne at the time of the Red Wedding, while Myrcella had already been pledged to Trystane Martell of Dorne. The initial betrothal to Robb Stark was...

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

3E came out in 2000, about the time the internet started really taking off and people were starting to move beyond modems dialing into the internet. Before that, message boards and other forums were creaky, slow and not very user-friendly. However, I still saw huge differences in power in 2E...

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

Weighing in late here, as usual. I found a lot more rules-lawyering going on in 2E than in 3.5E because 3.5E had rules for just about everything, which could bog down the game. I remember my 2E DM had a whole 3-ring binder full of House Rules - he wanted to be consistent because most of his...

    D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

wow, your 2E experiences were way different than mine. For 2E, a 1st level fighter would have d10 + CON hit points, for a maximum of 13, with an average of maybe 7 if you have a +2 CON bonus for having a very high16 CON. A 2E troll with 6d8+6 hit points is going to have an average of 33 hit...

Game of Thrones 3.9 "The Rains of Castamere" (spoiler alert)

Emmon Frey, who took over lordship of Riverrun, is married to Genna Lannister, sister to Tywin Lannister, aunt to Cersei, Jamie & Tyrion. And, yes the Riverlands are in bad shape, but they have rich, fertile grounds and the elder Lord Frey won't survive past the current winter, if it's as long...

Game of Thrones 3.9 "The Rains of Castamere" (spoiler alert)

There are seven kingdoms in Westeros - the North, where Winterfell is the seat. Even with the castle razed, it still has symbolic power and is the reason why Bolton holds on to it despite the weather in A Dance with Dragons. Riverrun is the seat of power in the Riverlands - whoever controls...

Game of Thrones 3.9 "The Rains of Castamere" (spoiler alert)

Small bit of info I picked on when I re-read the books back-to-back last year. In the first book, Mirri Maz Duur - the witch woman who supposedly was going to save Khal Drogo for Dany - told Dany and Ser Jorah that she learned her trade for several different sources, including a Maester name...

Game of Thrones 3.9 "The Rains of Castamere" (spoiler alert)

He should have joined with Renly, but Robb would not accept that Renly had claim over Stannis, since Renly was the younger brother. That was probably his big mistake - the Northmen, combined with the men of the Riverlands and Highgarden would have been way too much for the Lannisters. With so...

Game of Thrones 3.9 "The Rains of Castamere" (spoiler alert)

It played out somewhat like the books in that regards, though Robb's wife was not there in the book. Robb was struck by crossbow bolts and dropped, then SmallJohn Umber turned a table over to protect Robb for more bolts. Robb then struggled to rise in the books, but only made it to his knees...
