    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Gary- Not sure if anyone's asked this before, but if there were a canonical Gygaxian campaign, and you wanted to communicate the tone and style of play to a newbie, what movies would you have them watch as reference?

    Hexes are cool!

After years and years of using hexes, we switched to Squares with 3E. For a long time, we bitched because of diagonal movement. Eventually, we just learned not to move diagonally.

Who Keeps the SRD Open in Another Window?

I have the Hypertext SRD open whenever I'm working on characters. But not while surfing the web.

Do you notice being affected by a [Su] ability?

I said you certainly notice being touched.

    Doing XP Awards better

This is basically what I do. I figure out how much XP I need to award for the session, so that each character will level up about once every 4 sessions. If anyone in the group has done some keen roleplaying, I award everyone a bonus for it. Some of my players love watching people speak in...

Do you notice being affected by a [Su] ability?

I'd go with the "you notice it only if you can be affected by it." It's not a spell or a spell-like ability. They certainly notice being touched. And that's part of the effect of the ability, so...

Expedition To.... / Which Expedition do you want to see next?

I'm greedy, I want my favorite, non-classic, module updated. Expedition to Night Below!

Good PrC for a Dragon-riding Gnome Wizard

This guy starts at 12th level and will probably never see 15th, so I'd like to get as much out of him now as possible. What if I ditched Dragonslayer and Spellsword and went straight into Eldritch Knight?

Good PrC for a Dragon-riding Gnome Wizard

That's very much along the lines of what I was looking for. Though I am loathe to give up the three spellcasting levels. I'm not sure the special abilities I'd get are worth losing 6th level spells. I wish the Dracolexi wasn't a freakin' bard PrC.

Did these old adventures suck? Nobody talks about them

My problem with Axe of the Dwarvish Lords is that the bad guys are goblins. My players aren't super interested in fighting goblins at 12th level and while the author(s?) did a great job of making goblins nasty, my players would rather be fighting more fantastic stuff at that level. Stuff you can...

    Building the Ultimate Grappler

Sure, ok, but he can't be evil. :(

    Building the Ultimate Grappler

If you had 12 levels to play with, how would max out your Grapple effectiveness? Not only grapple but kill what you've grappled.

    Strength based monks?

Sorry for the Thread Necro. My 12th level Vow of Poverty Monk has no problems without fly. Leap of the Heavens means he can, on average, jump 40 feet straight up, if he so chooses. Abundant Step has gotten me safely to the ground after more than one aerial combat as well. Helps that our...

Good PrC for a Dragon-riding Gnome Wizard

Here's my quandary; I'm thinking of swapping out my 12th level Monk in my friend's Greyhawk campaign, for a 12th level gnomish dragonriding Wizard. The premise of the character is that he's into dragons, has Leadership, Improved Cohort, and Draconic Cohort so he can get a Young Brass Dragon (I...

    Wizards 2008 releases?

I...I HOPE that's true. I'd pay good money for a D.I. that took the place of books. One that let me use the rules via webtools rather than just read them online and then get an Excel sheet to do the work for me. So, I'm crossing my fingers for the D.I..

    D&D 4E Betting on 4E - for real

If it weren't illegal, and this weren't a public forum, I'd bet $10 that they'll announce in 2008.

    Wis Bonus To Attack?

Hmmm...Not sure what my GM will say about that...worth a shot!

    Wis Bonus To Attack?

I rely on my Monk Levels. WIS to damage would be epic, but next level I get Spell Resistance and right now spells are the only thing I fear.

    Wis Bonus To Attack?

Ah, yes, Intuitive Attack. Well spotted. Thank you! Yes, this is for my Exalted, Vow of Poverty Monk. Cheesy? Yes. But I roleplay it to the hilt and think I earn it every session. I actually eschew many buffs and healings legitimately allowed under the rules, but which I think are against the...

    Wis Bonus To Attack?

Is there any feat that allows a Monk to gain his Wis bonus to either attacks or damage?
