D&D (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

I've seen some pretty great custom monsters that come out of Midjourney. If you're trying to come up with a concept, you can get something wild and build a whole narrative around that.

D&D (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

I'd definitely want real artists if I ever made a commercial product. There are people who make character portraits in Midjourney that are really good at getting specific results, and I'm not that guy. I'm not half bad with doing things digitally though and I've grabbed some AI originals and...

D&D (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

Yeah. I just put something together quick for my group and was struck by how easy it is now with AI. Image, music, save as PDF in OneNote, and it's much faster than when I first started DMing 20 years ago.

D&D (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

There's been a lot of talk about AI on this board lately. I get the arguments against using AI to replace artists but it's a pretty powerful tool for world-building a home game, from custom art for every PC, to cityscapes and custom monsters. I've recently fallen down the hole of AI generated...

D&D (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

I've seen the "supers" complaint on social media and it's always pretty funny to me as someone who really started playing the running the game when 3.5 came out. Nothing in 4e, 5e, or 5.24e can hold a candle to the over-the-top broken power level of 3.5.

    D&D (2024) 2024 PHB - A much too early review

Because the custom backgrounds aren't in the PHB, they haven't been implemented in DnD Beyond. I see tons of posts on other boards where people are trying to homebrew the rules in. Custom should have been the default with a bunch of pre-made examples for people who like that.

    D&D (2024) Warlock -- initial analyses

You literally quoted my posted and then used the word "dumb" twice, as if that's what I said. They said they didn't want to overwhelm players with too many choices. It was never about knowing your character in an RP sense, it was about being mechanically uninformed. They don't trust new players...

    D&D (2024) Warlock -- initial analyses

After playing Pathfinder 2, I'm reminded how much I hate this about 5e. I've come to accept it over the years, but playing other systems really makes a lot of sore spots stand out. Having every class get a subclass at level 1 opens all of the design space. Want a Str based monk? Works at level...

D&D 5E If you don't like ASI at character creation...

At this point, my ideal d20 system involves just using ability modifiers instead of scores and having them range from -1 to +4 at character creation with free (i.e. no sacrificing a feat) increases with character level. Race, background, and class all give qualitative features like breath...

D&D 5E If you don't like ASI at character creation...

The abilities scores should just be thrown out. They're a weird anachronistic vestige at this point. The new remastered version of PF2 just uses modifiers and that's easily the simplest, most elegant way to go since it's what you use for 99% of the game.

D&D 5E If you don't like ASI at character creation...

I dislike any version where the different available options give you math widgets that add up so that specific combos are always mathematically privileged for classes and builds. I'm all for dropping all ASIs at character creation and having race, background, and class give flavorful abilities...

    D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

The discussion about the Binder is the exact discussion I've been having with my gaming buddies on how I'd want to change up all of the DnD classes. I see was literally calling the warlock the "goetic" and saying it should be more of a summoner/binder style class. It's mechanically cool, but...

The AI Red Scare is only harming artists and needs to stop.

The AI generated image isn't a copy any more that anyone's fan art is a copy. It's original. I hope you realize that anytime anyone posts an image online, every computer that every sees that copies it, right? You get that every original work ever put out digitally is copied a bajillion times...

The AI Red Scare is only harming artists and needs to stop.

Is AI taking things behind paywalls? Because if you post an image here in public and then I make a different image inspired by it, that's clearly not piracy. If it's not a person, it can't steal.
  17. NaturalZero

The AI Red Scare is only harming artists and needs to stop.

Nothing is being stolen. Nothing is being removed. AI doesn't "consume" art and make it disappear anymore than a person looking at it. Is that you think it works? You thought AI was literally removing art that other people made? You put a picture online and someone looked at, got inspiration...

The AI Red Scare is only harming artists and needs to stop.

Which irrelevant to the fact that a human using Photoshop and PC using Midjourney are both just looking at a bunch of artists' work and making something new. They're both "stealing" to the exact same degree. In renaissance academies, students trained by copying the masters to develop their...

The AI Red Scare is only harming artists and needs to stop.

And this is why the argument that it's "immoral" or "stealing" to learn from someone's art style and make something original based on that learning is bunk. It's how art has always worked but now we're incensed because someone found a more efficient way to do it. Somehow, when it takes more time...

The AI Red Scare is only harming artists and needs to stop.

I was in college around 2000 and took a lot of art classes. Photoshop was evocative to me and I was using it draw things by hand while even my professors were only teaching photo editing. At the schools I went to, digital illustration wasn't a thing and I was often told by lay people that...
