    Happy Whacking Day!

Definitely one of my favorite episodes of the Simpsons. I could drive over to Springfield to celebrate, but somehow I don't think chasing snakes with a club would go over very well. :)

How Do you Game? First Person or Third Person?

As a player almost always first person. As a DM it varies quite a bit. A conversation might start out in third person and then switch to first.

    An Unsung Doctor Who

The Doctor really hadn't been defined in the TV series though. While making him Doctor Who instead of just the Doctor was a movie change, a lot of the movie background didn't conflict with the series at the time. The Time Lords didn't appear by name until the season 6 story The War Games. I...

RPGs are ... Role Playing Games

D'oh. All this time I thought RPG stood for rocket-propelled grenade. I have a completely different understanding of this forum now. :uhoh:

    You are not the Director

The whole purpose of using an analogy is to compare a concept people are not informed about to a concept they are familiar with. It's important that the person making the analogy and the audience have the same understanding of that familiar concept. I think your desk analogy does this. It...

    You are not the Director

I agree with the blog's point that it is important as a DM to facilitate a game rather than trying to exert overall control over it. Of course it takes some control to do that. Sounds like what a lot of directors do to me.

    You are not the Director

I have to agree with those who have said this is a bad analogy. No role in creating movies is a very good comparison for a DM. Calling the DM a producer really isn't any more valid than calling the DM the director.

What is this? Name that mini!

I remember having that miniature as a kid. I suspect it is simply a giant slug. Edit: It could also be a carrion crawler.

This PDF cover has to be seen...

I read your post. Even though he evidently started with a picture of Aria Giovanni, it reminded me of Jeri Ryan. I'd seen that picture when browsing RPGNow before I ever saw this thread, and that's who I immediately thought of. Edit: Although I can understand why you might think I missed your...

    Good Gaming Memories?

Back in High School I gamed in the basement at a friend's house. That basement was huge. It had a family room area with TV and large couch, a breakfast nook, a place for a ping pong table, a home office, a bathroom with a shower, a small room with Middle Eastern rugs and a hookah, a garage...

This PDF cover has to be seen...

It looks a lot like Jeri Ryan, 7 of 9 from Star Trek:Voyager, to me.

    Roman Mythology help

My answer to the question would be: Lake Puma Yumco, Cintamani. Pbartender has covered Cintamani. Lapis Lazuli seems a good answer because it is a blue stone that comes from the "roof of the world," but it hardly floats in the sky. Lake Puma Yumco is literally "the blue jewel that is...

What actor would play your character?

    I'm not sure either. :uhoh:

What actor would play your character?

Steve Buscemi would be perfect for most of my characters.

    Session to Death Ratio

PC death tends to be rare in my games. Usually only after doing something insanely stupid or when fighting a major NPC.

    Ideally, How Many Battles?

There are too many variables depending on the game type and players to state an ideal number of combats per session. In a dungeon crawl, I would say 6 or 7. An investigation heavy game would probably only have 1 or 2. So I'll go with 1-7 combats a session being ideal.

New X-Com Game: How to miss the point

FPS games sell and there are plenty of existing game engines to use. Turn based strategy games fit into a pretty small niche these days. They'd also likely have to start any strategy game from scratch. I understand why they'd think FPS from a business perspective. I still don't like it...

24 Million Lapsed D&D Players - Define "Lapsed"

I've gone back and forth between playing D&D and other RPGs many times. Does that make me a relapsed player?
