Another recommendation for Thunderbird. I don't use it anymore since I just use GMail, but I used Thunderbird for quite some time. (I've never been a fan of web-based email either but GMail won me over).

My wife and I were only there for the afternoon session, but things seem to go fine are far as we could tell (granted, it was the first Games Day we attended at either Friends or GP). We had a good time playing the 4E demo (thanks, Vyvyan!), and we're going to try to attend more in the future.

That's pretty much what happened to me as well. I also got tired of the randomness and find the pre-paints from Reaper and Rackham/FFG somewhat more appealing. I'm putting more effort now into getting caught up on painting my metal minis.
