Give Stephen Colbert a free copy of Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition

She's quite attractive, yes, but Christina Hendricks (known to Firefly fans as Saffron/Bridget/Yolanda/Our Mrs. Reynolds) also played D&D as a kid, and has talked about it on her brother's podcast, "Geeks On!" Maybe it's because I'm a Firefly fan and not an Andromeda one, but I know which one I...

    D&D 4E 4e Psionics speculation

I'm hoping for Primal, Psionic, and Shadow. The classes that have been mentioned, plus Necromancer and Assassin. Mm-mmm good. As for psionics, I like the idea that each power source will be good at different things, while still filling multiple combat roles. I also think it's extremely...

    Whither OotS?

He could still be a multiclass rogue/fighter/wizard specializing in illusion and enchantment. In fact, that could be a source of a joke, since it will be possible sooner than simply playing a bard will. OMG. Full of win. I laughed so hard. Thank you.

    Fomorians article on DDI

I liked the article. I really really like that they're using the planes as "the fantastical place where stuff is going on with lots of adventure hooks" and not "the fantastical place where monsters x, y and z come from" As for feydark, yeah, it rates a "meh." Usable, Not excellent, not Golden...

Anyone else coming back into the fold because of 4.0?

I think I fall into this category too. My first exposure to D&D was the cartoon show, and soon afterwards I had a friend who had a bunch of weird cheap plastic D&D toys, and we'd make "Dungeons" out of blocks, fill them with monsters, and send in our G.I. Joes to fight the monsters. Those...

D&D 4E 4E NPC Classes - has there been any info?

I'd like to make a distinction between two of the main things NPC classes existed for: the first is tiered combat ability, the second is generating NPC's the characters arent' expected to fight. For the first, I definitely think that the toughness categories (Minion, Standard, Elite, Solo)...

D&D 4E My 4e Class design hubris: advice needed

Well, obviously we don't know enough to be sure yet, but I do think it will be easier to reorganize powers into new categories (that is what you want, right?) We've seen that powers are based on character level, not a particular class, and seem fairly modular so far. So it seems like it will be...

Wizards: We want Class Power decks

Just to add my vote: Cards yes please, collectible hell no. I'm happy to make the cards myself, but PDF's would be awesomely user-friendly. I guess we'll see.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

I think it's a literary allusion, not a pun. But that's just me being pedantic. IIRC, Artful Dodger was the name of the urchin who tutored Oliver in being a pickpocket in Oliver Twist. EDIT: Geez, I completely forgot to mention how much I love this article! Crunchy goodness! I am now even...

Do We Need A Bard Class?

For me it all comes down to the different concepts that have been attached to the word "Bard" over the years before I can answer. Do I want a retread/update of the 3.5 bard, with half-assed combat, half-assed spellcasting, and a boring-to-play musical buff system? No, pass. Do I want a new...

    NPC Classes?

It's actually a little more complicated than that there aren't NPC classes. There are new monster roles that are practically classes, but those deal strictly with combat roles. Classes for non-combat NPC's haven't been talked about, and some people have said that DM's will have more freedom to...

    Homebrewing Races and Clases!

I think the responsible answer is "We just don't know." You could make an argument that the more modular overall system will make it easier, or that the different design approach to monsters as compared to PC's will make it harder, or about a dozen other things. I think homebrewing classes...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

I'm glad to see there are other fans of the hexmap out there. Does anyone have experience playing with a hex grid and three-dimensional combat? I.e. flying or underwater? It seems like that's one place where a three-vertex coordinate system might be more useful than hexes' sexy tesselation...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

Meh, when I was 16 I would have been totally outraged, but now it seems like an okay idea. I mean, the most realistic system would be a map with no grid at all, and players would use a calibrated piece of string to measure distance directly from point A to point B, and see if they have enough...

What classes will be in the martial power book?

I'm guessing Monk and Barbarian, and maybe a third class, but what? Samurai? I hope not. Swashbuckler? Better, but the rogue seems to have that sort of thing covered. So I don't know. Then lots of powers and paragon paths and epic destinies (man, what a pain to type. Can we just call them...

    Rich Baker on the Swordmage

Well, his character was a warblade/warmage then a warlord/wizard. Maybe he kept some wizard powers. It's true he only mentions swordmage, but a cone attack seems very wizardy to me. ::shrug:: Either way, sounds like it could be a cool class to play.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

My guess is, since it takes 2 standard actions and 2 minor actions in the suggested first turn, the action point gives it a bonus standard action or even a bonus standard and a bonus minor. Need more info to be sure though. Elite monsters might just get extra actions.

Mind Flayer vs Aboleth conflict influences Giths vs 'Thids dynamic

In his defense, my response to Aboleths in the MM was basically "WTF, that's stupid." It wasn't until I got Lords of Madness that I began to see the potential. So he's not alone. As for the giths, does W&M say where the two subraces live now? Is one in the Astral Sea and one in the Elemental...

worlds and monsters is in my hands

I totally agree. Iron Dragons yay, Adamantite boo. Even if you're using fantasy metals, Mithril would be better, and even Mithril would be stupid. Although, Mercury Dragons are a very interesting possibility... Especially as a poison-breathing metallic... hmmm...

D&D 4E What chances are there for a 4e DARKSUN to be published?

Oh hell yes. Original Flavor Darksun is the only Darksun, in my book. :)
