    Does the shardmind seem overpowered?

    IMO, there's nothing wrong with the wilden (I quite like them actually), but the minotaur is one of the weaker, if not the weakest (in terms of racial features), of the Str/Con races. Probably their biggest issue is that their racial abilities really pigeonhole you. Now, I don't think you'll...

    Can someone explain the monk changes to me?

    IMO, changing the monk's attack powers to be strictly implement powers has less to do with balance (since they now work more or less like any other implement user) and more to do with flavor/class concept. WotC clearly envisioned the monk as an unarmed combatant, but Weapon powers have a...

    Variety is the spice of life

    On Monday, my players finished the first arc of my campaign, which involved them putting down a gang of Asmodeus worshipping halflings. I got plenty of mileage out of halfing stouts, thieves, prowlers, and a reskinned halfling cleric of Torog.

    Players dissatisfied with level of danger in 4e

    Yeah, even the errata'd needlefang drake swarms are still too deadly for their level. I nearly TPK'd the party last night with a pair of them (they blunderered into an ambush that took place in tight quarters), and if I hadn't started pullling my punches (first I took mercy on them and had the...

    Recommend Me Some Diabolically Appropriate Music

    Thanks for the suggestions. The PCs are only half way through 1st level, so keep the suggestions coming. BTW, I did end up using Ave Satani, the theme song from The Omen, during the last session and that seemed to work on the players!

    New Ampersand - future stuff (DDi)

    BTW, I don't know if anyone noticed, but apparently there was an issue with the formatting of the new blocks when the Ampersand column was first released. They've fixed it and I think it looks even better than before.

    Published adventures involving Formians?

    "The Hive" by Phillip Larwood, a 3.5e Dungeon adventure features formians quite prominently.

    Recommend Me Some Diabolically Appropriate Music

    I don't think any of my players hang out here, so I think I'm safe, but one of you guys strays into this thread, get out now! After 1 1/2 of playing in a 4e campaign its my turn to DM. My first session on Monday went really well, but I want to introduce some thematically appropriate background...

    Class Idol FINAL Round: The Ultimate Battle

    Fighter all the way, probably the best all-around class in 4e.

    Blog posts on DDI should be free

    The column in question is not really a defense of the system or an exploration of player psychology, in fact, Wyatt's musings on the subject are mostly confined to the first two paragraphs of the column and mainly serve as a segue into what is its real subject...giving advice to DMs on how to...

    Blog posts on DDI should be free

    He's referring to the Dungeoncraft column from Dungeon 173 (December 2009), not a blog post.

    What should a good DDI article pitch look like?

    I don't know how much help I'll be since I'm currently batting 1 for 29 when it comes to submission queries (my two previous Dungeon adventures were based off of a query originally sent to Paizo and then transferred to WotC, so I don't count them when it comes to questions like this), but I...

    Official WOTC 3.5 --> 4e conversions

    If I remember correctly, just about everything that was converted were monsters, so if you look under the Creatures tab in the Compendium, the books should come up under the Sources filter.

    Official WOTC 3.5 --> 4e conversions

    Dragons of Eberron was converted, as were some of the final 3.5e adventure modules. I'm fairly certain its all in the Compendium if you want to search there for the exact books converted.

    PHB3 Excerpts: what are you hankering for?

    I most want to see the shardmind, the runepriest, superior implements, and general feats. Basically, stuff that was not previewed over the last six months.

    Ranger article: Unseen Path by Mouseferatu! Beastmasters rejoice!

    The fluff emphasizes their close connection to nature and when it comes to rangers, nothing says more "nature" to me than a beast companion.

    Martial Power 2 Excerpt - Combat Styles

    IMO, it makes sense to do so, since their trying to emulate a specific style of fighting.

    Battlemind article out

    I'm really enjoying the power point using psionic classes and if I was going to play another character, I'd definitely pick one of them (though I'd probably wait for the PHB3 so I could get my full range of options). After delving into how the 4e power point system works, I'm really excited...

    Battlemind article out

    Yeah, exhilarating strike is potentially a very nice power, but unaugmented its weaker than a warlord's commander's strike (less damage but flexible targeting), while a 2 point augment is slightly better than the warlord's power, and it is pretty awesome with a 6 point augment (can you imagine...

    Battlemind article out

    The progression works in such a way that a psionic character can't spam their highest level at-will attack power at its highest augment more than twice per encounter at the paragon and epic tiers (and even then, at the lower ends of the paragon tier, you'd have to dip into the 2 power points...
