    D&D 2E On AD&D 2E

I definitely need to track down another copy of the original 2E PHB with the good art.

    D&D 2E On AD&D 2E

That truly is a lost joy of the TSR era of D&D IMO. Books that were equally fun to just sit down with and read as they were to use in play.

Sing to me, O Muse, of BECMI!

For the heck of it I actually played through the tutorial Bargle and Aleena adventure for the first time in over 30 years and just like when I was a kid I failed my saving throw after Aleena died and got led out of the dungeon by my "friend" like a chump. Then when I redid the ending as if I...

OD&D BECMI - Basic/Expert: what happens if you try to cast Charm on an enemy that has already been charmed by the BBEG?

Yes, I would be inclined to allow two charms from two separate casters with the recipient believing both to be his/her best friend as long as each spell was in effect.

Sing to me, O Muse, of BECMI!

My group always found it very hard to remember that AD&D spells required components even after years of play due to cutting our teeth on BECMI, lol.

OD&D BECMI - Basic/Expert: what happens if you try to cast Charm on an enemy that has already been charmed by the BBEG?

Page 3 of the Expert Rulebook says: "Multiple Spell Effects Hit rolls, damage rolls, Saving Throws, Morale, and other abilities may be affected for a short time by using certain magic spells. In general, multiples of the same spell (such as two bless spells) do not combine their effects, even...

OSR Dolmenwood to be published as a standalone game

"Adventuring Skills There are a bunch of X-in-6 based skills common to all character classes hidden away in B/X (e.g. listening at doors, searching for traps, the surprise roll, etc). Dolmenwood will present these as a skill system, rather than as ad hoc rolls. There will be 4 skills: Listen...

Kyle Brink (D&D Exec Producer) On OGL Controversy & One D&D (Summary)

"Fighting racism with racism" is still itself racist and wrong and shows that WOTC and Kyle Brink are really only about the optics of appearing inclusive when they are anything but.

D&D General Magitech and Science Fantasy are Fundamental to D&D

Great thread! Yes if you read the awesome early works of Leigh Brackett and understand that her stories were among the foundational "Appendix N" inspirations for Gary Gygax then suddenly hidden spaceships and psionics make perfect sense for D&D. Many of her stories seemingly start out like a...

D&D 5E D&D Beyond Reveals New Golden Vault Details

What is that art from? It looks way too good to be associated with any 5E WOTC product.

I really don't think it should be called the "ORC license"

I think going forward I'll probably divide my purchases and go half-OGL and half-ORC.

WotC With 5E now under Community Commons, WotC is now "just" another 5E publisher -- here's how they can still dominate

Will these include high end reprints of the 1st Edition AD&D books like they did in 2013?

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

Here's something I've been wondering. WOTC has several times claimed that that horrendous OGL 1.1 that was leaked was just a "draft." So what would that mean for those creators who received a copy of 1.1 prior to the leak and actually signed it? WOTC will just say "oh you signed away all...

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

Yep. "Oh I'm sure they'll only exercise that right if it's something really bad like Nu-TSR." NO. They've shown their cards. They can NEVER be trusted to not use ANY legal loophole they have to shut someone else down at a moment's notice. The loophole must simply not be given to them, period.

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

How can the original OGL be "deauthorized" for future use but "perpetual" (and apparently irrevocable) for all prior published material? It seems like they're just making up a legal stipulation that needs to be all or nothing, ie permanently irrevocable OR null and void for even previously...

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

"Here, sign OGL 1.1 to ensure that your survey response goes to the top of the queue..."

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

And the reason the surveys exist is to funnel negative feedback away from public channels/forums.

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

"You spoke, and we listened! Kyle Fields, the author of that horrible leaked OGL draft has been fired! Drafting the new OGL will be...um...Pynthia Shmilliams. Right, so uh, future survey results will go to her."
