3.x mostly. Use a Candle of Invocation to Gate in an Efreet, use him to wish for more candles, repeat until you have more candles than you know what to do with, then use them to gate in as many efreets as you need Wishes.

It's one option of 5. That already makes it an option.

The same can be said to you. If you hate DoaM this much, then you can... 1. If you're the Dm, ban it. 2. If you're a player, opt not to take it. 3. If you're a player and another player wants to use it, then oh well, hope the DM bans it. If not, then too bad.

I defend DoaM not because of the mechanic itself, but because I like having more options over having less options.

Funny enough, Reaping Strike actually rates pretty low as far as Fighter's at-wills go.

It's a mechanic found in optional options that you have the option of selecting from a number of other options with also having the option to not take the DoaM option. I'm not sure what part of that is difficult.

To put it bluntly, the Fighter being able to auto-kill a 3hp enemy is not an issue at all.

And by the time the BBEG is down to low enough HP where DoaM will auto-kill him, the fight's pretty much over anyways. And try: Cause of death, seriously wounded, tried blocking a greatsword swing with his shield. Impact shattered arm in 5 places, head lopped off with a follow-up swing.

Unless the DM is fudging rolls, if the Fighter manages to kill the BBEG with 3 damage chip attacks, the BBEG wasn't an actual threat in the first place.

Make that Wizard a Fighter and literally the same thing happens, except the Wizard can do more miss damage to guarantee the kill, can do it from range, and can also kill any remaining mooks who happen to be standing near the bad guy.

Tactics such as? Anything that isn't a class ability(like precariously placed chandeliers to drop on them, cover, 10 foot wide hallways to hole up in) are entirely up to if the DM feels like putting those things there. Class abilities though, what exactly can a Fighter do? Trip them...

4e Fireball still did miss damage though, in addition to he crit potential.
