Binding and Ally as rituals?

Should Planar Binding and Planar Ally be ritual spells? They seem strongly in the flavor of the Warlock.

    Sell me on the Warlock

It is easy and dull to add Eldritch Blast. This thread is seeking a challenge.

    Sell me on the Warlock

If I understand what you are referring to, then I point out that whether or not *I* like it for my game has nothing to do with whether it is good in someone else's game.

    Sell me on the Warlock

I'll be the judge of what I want and who gives it. You sure as hell can't be. God, what arrogance! When people post their best, *I* can decide whether I like it in total or just parts of it. They don't need to post what is best in my game. They can post what is best in their's and I can...

    Sell me on the Warlock

You aren't able to, but other people in this thread have.

    Sell me on the Warlock

By watching the players and making sure they all get time for their PCs to shine and don't get overshadowed. The game is simply too complex to pretend that a character's mechanical effectiveness can be reduced to a meaningful number.

    Sell me on the Warlock

Offense isn't about just DPR in some abstract situation. You do realize that, don't you? It is a really obvious, self-evident point. If I were that kind of player, then I wouldn't ask for the best (except for Eldritch Blast). I'd be happy with a crappy PC who _way_ underperformed compared...

    Sell me on the Warlock

What I want is very, very clear. I want examples of the best the Warlock can offer without Eldritch Blast. I never defined "best" as maximal DPR in some abstract situation.

    Sell me on the Warlock

There's no need to maximize DPR. I care very, very little about maximizing DPR. I actually think it is kinda stupid. (oh look, my imaginary character can do X abstract number of imaginary damage per abstract amount of imaginary time!) What I care about is whether a character (and, therefore...

    Sell me on the Warlock

I'm not the one that said that, but it looks like we agree on something. The maximal DPR of a class isn't what sells me on a class. Its flexibility and performance are.

    Sell me on the Warlock

By "Darkness / Invisibility is damn fun," I assume you are referring to using O n e w it h Sh a d o w s Prerequisite: 5th level When you are in an area of dim light or darkness, you can use your action to become invisible until you move or take an action or a reaction. which requires total...

    Sell me on the Warlock

So you're saying that you aren't smart enough to offer anything other than the cookie-cutter cliche. That has more to do with your personal limitations than anything else. Other non-Eldritch Blast builds have appeared in this thread, so we know good non-Eldritch Blade builds exist.

    Sell me on the Warlock

In 5e, fighters have several options and don't need to use a sword round after round. They can get twice as many feats as any other class and, if they are Battle Masters, they've got maneuver options as well. If they are Eldritch Knights, they've got even more options.

    Sell me on the Warlock

Building an optimized Warlock with Eldritch Blast is easy and boring. I want to see what can be created without the crutch of cookie-cutter Eldritch Blast. And, no multi-classing. I want to see how well this class handles diverse concepts on its own. I want to compare this class' flexibility...

    Sell me on the Warlock

Sticking with rules as intended, I'd like to see your awesomeness. Create the best 9th Warlock you can with the one exception being that he does NOT have Eldritch Blast. By "best," you'll have to balance offense, defense, and out of combat effectiveness.I suspect that this will demand a high...

D&D 5E I would really like a return of the old Bard class.

I've been playing a 5e Bard of Lore of over a year and I've loved it. Theory crafters here are missing that the Bard's list is fundamentally different from the Wizard list. It is loaded with support spells. They might be both full casters, but what "full caster" means to both of them is...

D&D 5E Mystic Step as a Magical Secret

While I don't agree with the assertion that defensive spells are too narrowly focused to be recommended spell choices (because _some_ of them cover a broad range of defenses which are very commonly occurring in the game), I don't like single-purpose spells for those classes with a limited number...

D&D 5E Mystic Step as a Magical Secret

Interesting idea. I might be "theory crafting like a tank." I believe that my Bard, as the most significant leader type in the party, has an incredibly important role and there are serious consequences should he fall down. He is Batman. He's not as strong as the other party members, but he...

D&D 5E Mystic Step as a Magical Secret

At no point did I argue that a PC can always be prevented from getting into melee. Assume, though, that you are at the rear of the party moving down a dungeon hallway (or in a 20x20 room or smaller). The party is ambushed from behind. Where are you going to go? Your own party is blocking you...
