XP: The Star Wars method in D&D

I don't like how fight-based it is, and how the alternative if you don't want to make it fight-based is very paperwork-heavy (assigning social, role playing events and puzzles CRs) and results in unequal advancement. I would much prefer finishing up the session and knowing I'm X closer to the...

XP: The Star Wars method in D&D

Are you using the Revised rules or the original rules? It may have been something they put in Revised. I think I heard about it on the DND-L listserv. Well, if it doesn't exist already, maybe someone can help me invent one? You're supposed to have 13 and 1/3 encounters of your level per...

XP: The Star Wars method in D&D

Really? Hm. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, then? Maybe it's a variant rule in the Star Wars rulebook? Flat XP on a per-session basis so that you don't have to go racking up bodies?

XP: The Star Wars method in D&D

Friends and I have been talking about changing the way we do XP in D&D to make it more like what I've heard the Star Wars method is like. The problem is I don't really know what it is, per se. Here's what I do know: There's some standard value you get every session (based on a 4 hour session)...

Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil (Spoilers)

I had to write this up for some missing players, so I figured I'd share it: Dramatis personae: Culver Darksun: 9th level self-loathing Drow cleric of Pelor. Ferin Torunn of Clan Locknload (don't blame me, I didn't come up with it): Fighter 7/Dwarven Defender 2 Garion: Human Ranger...

Summon Monster page now updated with Summon Nature's Ally

I feel I should say this, there have been previous attempts at the same thing. I don't remember the URLs anymore, but there are 2 other projects that have done similar things, and both of them are set so they can print out to 3x5 cards, unlike mine. I still prefer the work I've done, it's got...

Summon Monster page now updated with Summon Nature's Ally

Thanks! I appreciate the kudos. That would be greatly appreciated. So far I haven't had that, and that would be very useful. I'm sure with so much transcription I've made plenty of small editorial errors. Ork-way. Keep it under your hat. :) And your appreciation is welcomed.

Summon Monster page now updated with Summon Nature's Ally

I've got my monster summoning page updated with Summon Nature's Ally. The spells are also presented in toto, as well as split up by spell level. The next task will be to take the suggestions from Dragon 302 and add in by-CR every possible elemental or outsider in the SRD into its...

    Summoned monster stats

Are the old rules on fan-sites still useable, or are you In It if you use non-open-content for anything you put online? For example, I have a character on my website who's a geomancer. Am I in violation?

No, I totally appreciate the suggestion. Thank you. Seriously.

    Summoned monster stats

I wanna tackle Summon Nature's Ally first. And the Dragon 302 stuff will probably be VERY slow, because it would involve hand-entry of a lot of stuff, where before I was able to just copy and paste it from the SRD. But I expect I'll get around to it sooner or later.

    Summoned monster stats

Again, I'm frustrated and glad I didn't know about this beforehand. If I had I probably wouldn't have done mine (and saved myself some tiime), but as it is I'm happy with the way I did it; the special abilities all being spelled out as explicitly as possible, etc.

    Summoned monster stats

Yeah, I saw this one after I'd done my work. It's pretty cool, but I prefer the formatting I have, so I'm glad I wound up having to do mine. Also, I'm using that free-floating celestial/fiendish thing, and I plan on doing Summon Nature's Ally and the stuff from Dragon 302 soon.

    Summoned monster stats

http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~bowell/dnd/summoned.html Since it was pesky to flip through books and to apply templates on the fly, I came up with the following exhaustive list of everything you might need to know about the various monsters that are summonable with Summon Monster I-IX. There are...

    Shadowdancers and their shadows

That's not the case. There is a shadow monster in the MM. You can see it in the SRD at http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd/srdmonsterss.html

Catlord companion animal hit dice limit

Good question. Sorry I wasn't clear about this from the start: Page 45, Masters of the Wild states, "Animal bond also allows the animal lord to have one or more animal companions chosen from among her selected group. This aspect of animal bond is a spell-like ability that functions like a...

    Improved Familiar and Type

There is a T&B FAQ but it doesn't cover this. I've sent a message to The Sage, but since Skip Williams was let go I haven't gotten any responses from The Sage.

[URBIS] Need name for servant race - does anyone here speak Italian?

If you wanna get really cool you can call them: lo schiavo (lo skeeAHvo) singular and gli schiavi (lee skeeAHvee) plural That "lee" is sort of right, sort of not. It's somewhere between pronouncing "glee" and "lee". You have to press the front of your tongue to the top of your mouth and draw...

    Improved Familiar and Type

Well, there is a transformation. If you die, your familiar becomes a normal animal of its type, for example. Furthermore, let's say we have a ranger who has Dragons as his favored enemy. If he's fighting a wizard's pseudodragon familiar, why shouldn't he get his bonuses to skill rolls and...
