What I want specifically is variants of monsters that fill a role. 4e did a great job of this, as have a lot of the 3rd-party 5e monster books. Orc berserkers, orc shaman, orc assassins, orc warlocks, that sort of thing. Especially more elite lieutenant and boss-level threats.

I've been a little surprised at the lack of MM interviews/articles/previews compared to the PHB and DMG. Maybe they're waiting until January.

There is very little established lore on it. I think it was always intended to be a DM sandbox. Most of the sources listed in the fan wiki are only references to it. Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast (2e) has a 2-page description of the history of the place, with very little current info.

I can see it now. All the art will be AI-generated, rules will be encoded on the blockchain and available only as NFTs, die results will be weighted by subscription tier status, somehow.

In my group(s) it's a close vote between houseruling these spells to only deal damage on the enemy's turn (when they start in or move into the areas) or only on the caster's turn (when they start or move the zone over new enemies). Either way, no more than one instance of damage per round rather...

I would let characters change the direction of the cone at the start and end of their turn, and again outside their turn using a reaction to another creature taking an action. If you're spinning it around much more often than that nobody's really going to see anything other than brief flashes...

The game's got dozens of memorable NPCs that would make great PC or NPC proxies. They could do a full set of 50 humanoid NPCs alone but I'm sure it wouldn't sell well without some great monsters mixed in.

I think it'll be a clear 4" round base with a black 3" ring printed on it to show the true tabletop size space. Most of the big dragons have this.

Some interesting choices in properties, but looks good. Big fan of L+D+R.
