    Diagonals revisited

QFT! I submitted a post quite a while ago mentioning how cumbersome I find miniatures and squares to be. I like battles as much as the next guy, but I'd just rather roll some dice to find the answers rather than representing exactly where characters/monsters are on a game board. There's...

How Many Adventures Can We Expect...?

I see what you're saying - if I need a quick adventure there are a ton of places to find them, but I'm just hoping for a lot of official, physical WOTC adventures. But I'm kinda crazy about them, I know that. At one point, I owned EVERY Basic D&D adventure (well, minus The Jade Hare). Had to...

How Many Adventures Can We Expect...?

Looking back at all of the 3E adventures - there really just aren't very many of them. These were pulled off the Wizards site, and while it does seem to be missing a few (Fantastic Locations, Expeditions), for the most part, these are all the adventures for D&D 3E. I included Forgotten Realms...

    Thoughts on worlds and planes...

I'm not sure about the Feywild and the Shadowfell. I mean, I like some of the monsters involved, but it all just seems a little bit like a "warp zone" to me. The Shadowfell completely reminds me of the alternate universe in the Super Nintendo game, Zelda: A Link to the Past. I don't know...

    Thoughts on worlds and planes...

I guess I'm not really worried about it. Just seeing if anyone else feels like planar travel isn't for them.

    Thoughts on worlds and planes...

I don't post on here often, as I haven't "gamed" for years, but the more I read about 4E, the more excited I get. I bought both of the preview books and I thought they were pretty cool. But I just finished Worlds and Monsters and I think I've come to a general conclusion about what I dislike...

    D&D 4E 4E PHP cover art changed

I would guess the DM guide would have to be slightly modified as well, since the dragon on that cover is looking through a crystal ball showing the scene from the PG cover. I like how those are linked.

Virtual Game Table and Published Adventures...

If I buy "Keep on the Shadowfell", can I just punch in the code that comes with it and get a virtual map of the entire adventure online? Seems like that would be pretty sweet and would make online play really easy. Sorry if this has been answered before or if the answer itself should be obvious.

Another Big Playtest Post from Michele Carter

QFT I agree completely. But my plan is to try the game and houserule the heck out of it. If I like a tactical movement ability, I'll see if I can figure out a way to keep it. If it's cumbersome and slows the game down, I'll ignore it. The problem will be balancing the game when I start...

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E from an "Outsider"...

"Aside from a few occasions I have never used miniatures in D&D. As a DM I give them an overview of their opponents and the enviroment and they tell me what they want to do and how they want to do it. Btw, "narrated" combat is normally much faster and more vibrant than using miniature combat...

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E from an "Outsider"...

"Anyway... Grossout, the way in which you describe your glory days of 2e it does not sound like 3e or 4e will be right for you. You want a more rules light, less tactical game, cause by your description of your 2e experience you probably aren't much of a fan of feats, grapple, trip, disarm etc...

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E from an "Outsider"...

"If I'm hearing you correctly, 3E's focus on precision is killing your fun." Yeah, that about sums it up. Back in the day, if I was unsure about location or something, I just remember asking the DM about the situation and him describing it to me. He wasn't playing against us. He'd be honest...

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E from an "Outsider"...

That all sounds good to me. It shouldn't be players vs DM, as far as I'm concerned. I'm encouraged by what I'm reading from most of these responses. Maybe I did give up on 3E too soon. Instead, I should have just tried to play my way. Although, like someone posted earlier, it would be nice...

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E from an "Outsider"...

-Couldn’t I just declare to my DM that I’d like to “hide in the shadows and try to backstab the biggest orc?” Then he’d say “okay, roll for it and we’ll see if he notices you.- "Honestly, I think you can pull this off in 3e. It's definitely not a style of play that's very well supported by the...

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E from an "Outsider"...

---Thinking about it some more, you know what might be a good section of the DMG, a few pages on how to run the game and use those manuevers ect without a grid map. It seems that map and mini use is assumed now.--- GREAT Idea.

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E from an "Outsider"...

Caves of Chaos - Exactly! The thought about minis w/out squares sounds like it could work. That's something to consider I guess.

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E from an "Outsider"...

I posted once or twice on this site about a year ago, trying to get advice on whether or not 3E was for me. Folks were generally very helpful with advice and insight, but the consensus was that it would be a good idea to pick up the starter box set (or whatever it was called) to give it a try...

Generic question on movement & combat rules...

What about these products...? Do any of you think getting the Basic Game Box Set (I think that's what its called) with the included minis would help me learn the system. I understand the whole "idea" of DnD, I'm just stuck on, well, I guess the whole movement concept. What about the Player's...

Generic question on movement & combat rules...

Thanks again for all the comments... Like I said, I haven't played for MANY years, but I know we never used minis or really even a map. The DM would describe the hallways/ rooms we saw and we'd tell him what we wanted to do. One of the players would keep a rough sketch of the description in...
