How to Powergame in Ten Easy Steps

Nice article, Challenger- a real hoot to read. I know it was all very tongue-in-cheek, but you did make some good points with the second list: As a GM, this is one of my favorite "powers" to use... the player's choices and actions (or in some cases, inactions) always have consequences. The...

[NEW COLUMN!] Shut Up and Roll #1: Out of the Caves of Infinity... and Beyond!

For some reason I couldn’'t fathom, I was in a cave. Don’t ask how I knew it was a cave since I couldn’t see more than a few feet in any direction. But it seemed very cave-like- dark, dank and full of guano, which I started to shovel into my bag by the handful. A man can never...

I read the first book in this series when it was released a few years ago. Another good read I would recommend. Stouthart

Are you part of the "Lost Generation" of RPG gamers?

1st edition was more similar to 2nd than 2nd was to 3rd. I remember the transition to 2nd edition being for the most part seamless. Now the change to 3rd was a pretty big jump with the change over to the unified d20 mechanics and the addition of feats. Stouthart

    [October] What are you reading?

I agree with Nellisir on these recommendations. I would also add the Takeshi Kovacs novels by Richard K. Morgan. Especially the first one, Altered Carbon- one of my favorite cyberpunk novels. And while not strictly cyberpunk, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline does take place almost exclusively...

Pathfinder 1E Prepping for Pathfinder: Kingmaker (spoilers!)

Looks like you are having a good time with this AP. I ran it last year and we had a blast. The player's really got into the nation building and made some interesting choices during the campaign that I went along with. Like instead of wiping out a band of Kobolds they befriended them and ended...

D&D 4E Poll about your interest in 4e

I own the 4ED PHB, DMG, and MM and played it (as well as the later Essentials edition) a few times. I even bought my players copies of the 4ED PHB. It never really grabbed us. My old 3.5 group split into two and now I play in a Pathfinder campaign (Middle Earth, 4th age) and DM a 3.5 Forgotten...

    [October] What are you reading?

I enjoyed Among Thieves and can't wait for the next book in the series. And I would recommend you hang in there with Lord Foul's Bane. The original Thomas Covenant trilogy is outstanding.

    [October] What are you reading?

I'm currently reading two books: -The Hammer and the Blade by Paul S. Kemp -The Archer's Tale by Bernard Cornwell The Hammer and the Blade is fun brain-candy fantasy. It has a very strong 'RPG Adventure/Module' vibe. Pretty one-dimensional across the board but enjoyable. The Archer's Tale is...
