Gary Gygax has passed. RIP beloved father of RPG's. (merged)

Thank you. Mr. Gygax. Words cannot sum up what you have meant to my life. May our paths cross again

    Castle Whiterock

I kind of got the feeling they wanted the town to the "base of operations." That being said, they provide a few things going on for those pesky, meddling adventuring groups who can't see the town as simply a Stuckey's on the road to adventure. (for anyone who doesn't know what Stuckey's...

Have you seen/met any of these D&D "celebs"?

When the original Dieties and Demigods book came out at Gen-Con, Darlene was in the booth nearby calligraphing people's names on anything you gave her. I had her do my copy Very nice lady as I recall.....

    Who has made D&D great?

Robert Blake (worked with Gygax's company that put out Aesheba and Cyborg Commmando) (also ran the AD&D Open at Gen-Con for several years) Eric Noah (who kept me caring about Greyhawk when I thought all was lost) The Hickmans (for Ravenloft) Paul Jacquays (Dark Tower) The entirety of Judges...

How hard is it to find players?

I voted "difficult" It's pretty obvious there are a ton of gamers in the greater Chicagoland area. My problem is that I want to play during the week. I have a family that I'd like to spend time with on the weekends. I've put messages up here, WotC, Meet-Ups, etc, and can't really seem to find...

Which of the following early D&D adventures did you play in?

I actually played the Slave Lords modules when they were first run at GenCon. A complete nightmare! Me and my 3 friends were paired with 4 kids who had never played before. Didn't get out of the first round alive....... :( Ravenloft was the most fun I ever had running an AD&D module...

    On Fantasy Names (Resurrected Rant)

Even better: use common household items or names you see in public: I ran a group that used beer as the basis: Coors, Bud, Michel Obe, Strohs, Samuel Adams, Schmidt (a regional beer from Minnesota, I think), and Hamms Another smaller group was: Arthur, King of The Treachers, his loyal friend...

    Gaming stores in Cleveland

I moved to Chicago from Cleveland a year ago. There were two places I went to: one on the East side and one on the West side (Clevelanders are VERY particular about "their" side of town BTW) East: Warzone Matrix on Rocky River Drive in Cleveland near the airport West: Comic Heaven on Robin...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

After playing for two solid years and actually getting to a level the module was designed for, my party went carefully and thoughtfully through the Tomb of Horrors with only minor scratches. We deduced that EVERYTHING was going to cause us problems if we didn't stop and think about it first...

    Greyhawk: City map of Highfolk

The Highfolk.info site has a lot of really good info. Too bad their map isn't available. I agree that Highfolk appears to be off the Velverdyva. I was assuming that there was at least one tributary linking the town to the main river. Kind of like the Wheloon map. Thank for all the info!

    Greyhawk: City map of Highfolk

I'm going to be starting a campaign that revolves around the Vesve Forest and the towns there-in. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of someplace where I might procure a map of the City of Highfolk (official or un-official). Whether its a free site or I have to purchase doesn't matter...

    Greatest roll ever

Greatest roll I ever saw: A friend of mine was playing in a "miniatures" tournament way back around GenCon 13 or 14 (yeah, I'm old) He was in an event put together by Erol Otus called something like Le Grande Tourne des Monstres Rubres......basically a battle between rubber monsters. Everyone...

Looking for an article I read.......

Someone please put me out of my misery! Several days/weeks ago, I read an article someone wrote somewhere about putting some randomness into combat situations. The part I was most interested in was spellcasters targeting a "square" on a game board with miniatures. This article introduced a...

    Religious Extremism in FR

I've been kicking around something for several days now and would like to get anyone's opinion, good bad or otherwise: Based on our own world of religious extremism, would it be possible for a radical fundamentalist fringe group to develop, that worships any or all of the Triad? (Tyr, Helm and...
