I think that only one end would get the effects since you have to enchant both ends of the quarterstaff seperately, but I don't know for sure.

If you are going to use the Ninth gate idea I would suggest reading the book it is based on. It is called the Dumas Club and it is much better than the movie and more cuthulhuesque than the movie was.

Option E Set massive damage Fort Save = DC 15 + 5 for every 5 hp beyond 10 on a single attack. I think hit points should be left alone. Just change the DC of the massive death fort save. That would give it a more horrific cast imho for the players when someone with a large number of hit points...
