Whern exactly does an Encounter end ?

In general, I've been fairly interpretative with regards to encounters. A chase scene, for instance, might spark 2 or 3 seperate fights, but happen over one encounter. I'll deliberately create it to be challenging, but not, if sensibly done by the party, lethal. When they attack a hold or...

D&D 4E Stealth and Perception checks in 4e

I tend to use what Black Night said.. and I tend to be a bastard, when my players attack hide-outs or lairs. Sounds out of the ordinary generate lower DC's for the other Monster's passive perception, etc. But I'm not really a fan of the idea that a group of monsters 10 squares and a standard...

    + Radiant Damage Question

Encounter Divine, Radiant, Weapon As far as I am aware, any power that dictates a damage type, does that damage type, with all of its damage.

    Bracers of Mighty Striking

Part of that streamlining is also intended to take place in information presentation. Of course, I'm inclined to agree that the warlord, in particular, breaks the streamlining. But it is still miles in front of the 3e flip-fest, in my playing so far.

Lay on Hands - Is it so Handy?

This is a serious question; How is that not clear?

    Magic Item Daily slots

I am running a house rule that unifies action points, magic item usages, and healing surges into something I'm calling the heroic surge. You get 1 back per milestone at heroic, 2/paragon, 3/epic, and you start with 2 extra surges. In all ways heroic surges are treated as healing surges...

    It's the rise and fall....

Double moves act as a single action, that consumes both move and standard actions. IE, you don't get your other action. Possibly, if you are forcibly interrupted, you could rule you'd get it back, if you haven't started. I'll be ruling that you've now got whatever left-over squares you had...

D&D 4E Keep on the Shadowfell and 4e thoughts - Spoilers in this thread

I've got 7 players, and I've revamped all the encounters, and added a bit of extra plot, etc. Running it in 2 weeks time. WE only play once a month, unfortunately.

    Adventurers making money with profession

I'm quoting this because it is the only good answer so far. From the phrasing of your initial question and subsequent replies, you're (and this player) aren't overly interested in economic systems and their failures. So follow Byron's suggestion. DarkRose50 - You've nicely highlighted why an...

    Tackling Someone

"It's over, Anakin! I have the high ground!" Or, alternatively, spear tackling an armed and armoured opponent is suicide. Otherwise, its a charge with a bull-rush, init? I'd allow for the knocking prone as long as both go, free of charge. *snicker*

    Using the Kobold Wild Mage

I've got a 7 person party, and I spent last session familiarising people with the rules, and trap encounters, etc. This session, I'll actually be starting KOTS, and I'm opening with an assault by Kobold bandits on their caravan, prior to reaching Winterhaven. I'm going to be using some of the...

A couple of quick rule questions.

One of the (not very) surprising things about 4e is how much help being a MTG player and onetime judge is. 4e enshrines the stack, in ways 3.x never really did. Anyway, that is why I said a caveat.. it won't happen often, but it can happen. Its not so much the pushing off a cliff, as the...

    Collected Core Handbook Errata

Actually, it really means that a Dragonborn needs something stronger than a horse. A RL horse should carry no more than 20% of its bodyweight, or so. A charger or horse with similiar bone-density can hold a bit more, but not a lot. Clydesdale and similiar draught-horse breeds made good warhorse...

A couple of quick rule questions.

:1: No, with a caveat. If the ability that hits them is an interrupt, or would cause a change in the scenario that would prevent the spell from being able to be cast, then it cannot be cast. (And the spell, AFAIK, is wasted) :2: No. If they are wearing armour, (Wether or not they are...

    WizLock? A silly idea?

What are your reasons for doing it? I don't think its silly, personally, especially if you went Half-Elf, which would enable you to take Eldritch Blast as well, as an encounter. (Or a different Pact Power) It would let you, if you picked your powers carefully, get a solid balance between...

    Explain the Warlock to me.

Star Pact warlocks do an amazingly good job of erasing undead. I'm DM'ing, and hadn't realised just how many of their powers are 'radiant' damage. *shrug* We have a rogue and a Warlock, and they seem to come out about even, in the end of an encounter, for damage dealt.

Somebody who is arguing blasts are cubes... please tell me why blast and burst use such different phrasing, with burst having the clear distinction of 'all directions'..

    question about half-elf paladin/warlock

I *am* going to say its a self-defeating tactic, though. The damage you deal is not enough to make up for the drastic change in your role. If it was a 1 or 2 person Party, it would be different, and a good idea, probably. This way, you're loosing a party spot to do somethign inefficiently...
