The biggest issue with the new Character Builder:

So where is the too hard stuff? Show me something in essentials that is not easily added? I know someone right now that can make an esentials Mage - and it works better than the online CB. I can add my own custom content right now. We could have had that, through the UI all along.

The biggest issue with the new Character Builder:

It's all in an unprotected file sitting on your computer. That is all I am going to say about that. The old CB had encryption for the file. This one doesn't. The content does not sit on their servers as it turns out. This is why alot of people have said that the online CB is basically the same...

The biggest issue with the new Character Builder:

I agree. You know what is even funnier - their customers adding the content that they said they could not. Do a google search if you want to. It is not hard to do at all.

? for all those that use a VTT program currently

I use maptool for every game. If you read my blog (I haven't updated in a long time, been too busy), I modified my table, installed a projector and a computer. The DM hosts a server on his laptop and the table computer is a client. The DM uses tokens for monsters, the players use minis...

The biggest issue with the new Character Builder:

Except, as it turns out, the stuff they are trying to protect is not protected at all int he new version and was at least minimally protected in the old product.

The biggest issue with the new Character Builder:

Not hard at all, seeing how people right now have it in the old "Classic" CB. They chose not to release the updates to the old builder and strung everyone along.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

And the funny thing is - it was all so it could go in the Online CB. There was no excuse for not updating the "Classic" CB with what was supposed to be there.

Wizards: Musings on the new DDi disaster

Have you listened to the podcast where they talk about the character builder and how much they need to protect their content?

Wizards: Musings on the new DDi disaster

I have been thinking about this and reading about the classic cb. It is of my opinion, when you look at everything that wizards has not been honest about essentials support in the old cb. I believe that this new cb is only there to protect their content. As I read about people taking apart...

Web-Based CB is Live (Official Announcement)

You must be. I can't even make a 1st level character without getting a white box in the center of the screen with red leters. The content of that box has been posted all over the place. Plus - very slow sometimes. This does not seem to work for most of their customers.

    Online Character Builder is LIVE!

The only thing they must be thinking is this: What a way to protect our content! Now our customers can't even use our content reliably! We are safe from those damn Pirates now....

    New Character Builder from WotC!

I have had (2) 1 year long subs and I have not cancelled. My sub is not up until March of next year. I just don't feel that I have been cheated by those people that only subbed a few times a year. I don't blame them, just as I don't blame the people who buy something 6 months later and pay...

I wish this would just die. I really do. You are not going to stop people from sharing their accounts if they want to.

    Disappointed D&D Insider Customer

I think for alot of people, it is the final straw. Things just add up sometimes and when you look behind and then ahead, nothing seems to be changing. The game you have come to love is changing midstream into something you don't love anymore.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Look. I don't care. I jsut said that there are people that have a problem with it. I don't. But, the fact is - they are fully capable of doing it. It is not like other companies have never done this before and I would think that most people could not afford to prove they did it anyways...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

They have said no. I also believe they went one further and said an offline version not an option anymore.

    D&D 5E What’s next for DDI

The problem with the offline viewers are that you would only have the name of the power, not the content. They have said that the CB files will export into .dnd4e format. I assume the same for the MB. They don't want content on your computers anymore. So offline viewers would not really give...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

But my idea is plauseable. I think current management looks at D&D as an MMO. Wjile it may not be slots, it could very well be space.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

I beleive that is what I was saying, I just couldn't remember hwo had said it. I also beleive the terms will be like Gleemax so yes, some people will have a problem with it. Chances are the CB will not have much data to mine, but the MB and (if) any other Adventure Tools - that is a...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

The data is all their to be mined - adventure information, monster information, etc. I expect the same rules to apply as they did on Gleemax. They can use any of your ideas that you put out there.
