WotC should make an online SRD....

I used iPad as an example, as that is the device that everyone seems to know. (and yes, you can flip though PDFs or other digital media on an iPad - it is similiar to reading a magazine, only a heavier - and no, I do not own one, but there are 4 people in my 2 groups that do) You completely...

WotC should make an online SRD....

Devices like the iPad solve that problem. You do not get the art or the fluff. As I said before, tying it to DDI and charging $10 to $15 a book would be acceptable for most people I think. If you can't look at the PDF or other digital offering on the computer, you certainly cannot flip...

WotC should make an online SRD....

Wrong you are assuming that they cannot make money and completely disregarding that the PDFs where pulled at about the time of the lawsuit. I did not say game companies. I said companies that did not change with the market. We agree then. Your assumption that they didn't or couldn't is...

WotC should make an online SRD....

I don't agree. The digital offering can be shown to people just as easily. With all the fancy art and everything. I believe that they lose more book sales from people subscribing to DDI and therefore not having to buy books.

WotC should make an online SRD....

First off, that is not what I meant. Show me a survey or anything where WotC asked people if they wanted PDF sales. Honestly, if anyone answered that survey that PDF sales would cause them to not buy the game, I would like to see it. Secondly, thank you for knowing what who I am, and...

WotC should make an online SRD....

Then kindly point me in the direction of proof of where that was. Face it, pulling all the PDFs was nothing other than a knee jerk reaction to protecting their IP. Having DDI and then not having books in some way digital is a failing on their part, whatever the reason.

WotC should make an online SRD....

We will agree to disagree then. I do not have to do surveys, I have seen the envirnment change at the local colleges and gaming stores. I am sure that WotC did not do one either. There are plenty of companies that went by the wayside when they did not keep ahead of the curve. Others...

WotC should make an online SRD....

For the record - I don't really care. It is not my job to figure out how to make money off of it. I am only telling you what the future is and what my kids, and alot of the kids in todays age want and expect. There were a few good ideas in this thread about how to do that. WotC are...

WotC should make an online SRD....

I am not sure you are getting what I am saying. My kids do not want books. They want to view it on their iPads, or whatever digital device that holds a couple of hundred books. That is the difference. They carry around the equivailant of 100 CDs with them if they want. They don't want to carry...

WotC should make an online SRD....

This is where I think you are wrong. I have kids of that age and I have alot of friends with kids 20 years old or younger. They are used to digital, they DEMAND digital. It is more likely that 12 year old Timmy sees and ad or hears about D&D from his online games then going to a book store...

What will Masterplan be after the C&D?

My only problem with this is that it is now, during the time of when a new tool should be very close to being announced. If that tool is something to compete with Master Plan, then we really know what was behind it. Also, I find it hard to not trust the deveper when he said the C&D explicitly...

What will Masterplan be after the C&D?

I will wait and see what the next Adventure Tool is going to be. On the DDI General forum there was a "soon" (whatever that is) answer at some point as to when the next Adventure Tool will be announced. It will be interesting if it overlaps with MasterPlan.

What will Masterplan be after the C&D?

Actually no, it wasn't. The only way (from what I have read) to share your DDI information was to directly copy a file. In fact, on their forums they actively encouraged people to buy DDI. When all is said and done though, I don't see how WotC did not know about the feature. There is a...

What will Masterplan be after the C&D?

We will have to see what happens. Ever since Apple successfully had the court agree that copying includes RAM, it is anyones guess at this point. I never used any of the export features, but if there are issues with sharing the data, it is the users problem. Just like I could share my DDI...

What will Masterplan be after the C&D?

Ughhh. When are companies going to learn. They create an API, post how to get information out of DDI and then wonder why people are using it? The only thing that should have happened is them stopping the export of DDI material. But, my guess is that they are working in a tool or 2 that...

Laptops - What programs or resources do you use to help you run or play your games?

I am currently looking at Masterplan, but not sure where to go with it as my gametable has Maptool integrated into it. With no updates and it possibly being dead, I am not sure I will use it at all. As a DM- Laptop: Maptools server Gametable computer: Maptools client for the projector...

What will Masterplan be after the C&D?

I was hoping the same thing. I have been playing around with it, and the only thing I would like at this time is a client/server feature for it. It would replace Maptools at my gametable I think.

    Gametable modification

Just a quick note to ssay that the surface of the gametable is finally complete. There is still more work to do. The next (short) blog entry is up. Life has been busy for me lately. Jsut not enough time to get to work on it. But it is close... EN World D&D / RPG News - rjdafoe

    DDI and IPAD

That is a reason I haven't bought it. With the iPad, I can go look and feel. I don't seem to be able to do that with this one. Version of Windows is no big deal for me. I can have extra Home licenses I can use. BTW, those reviews were not there yesterday! No reviews on it, which was...
