    D20 Modern Vs. Spycraft

That is not entirely true- they have skill feats that are interesting instead of the flood of +2/+2 skill feats. They have style and chase feats. They also have high level combat feats. That is a huge plus in my book. SD

I don't understand why people can't just let children be children- before forcing them deal with the many issues of the world. Yes, it is up to the parents, but it is a shame parents need to censor Dragon magazine from their children. (See, I brought it back on topic, heh.) SD

Re: Re: Thanks for the replies Eric and Henry I can only speak for me (though I cancelled a few issues back) - this is just one more step in a trend. Profanity on the cover, disgusting ads, political rant in the editorial, and immature nonsense in articles (BOVD)- Dragon was not a magazine I...

Agreed- to a degree. I have grown up in a pretty rough area where the f-word is used a few times every sentence. To write a story about that area- I could get around the use of the language and still bring about the tone of the area, but it would not be true to the characters who live there...

Heh, it is amusing you use those books as an example. They are rather clean in language, but they are certainly far from it in imagery. The opening scene with Dragosani alone has caused a number of people I know to close the book for good. SD

Re: Re: I Have A Question You da man, Henry. I was tempted to say the latter, but I was going to be quite rude about it. The profanity in the books is almost entirely (iirc) in the dialogue, not in the prose. It is not used by all characters, but by those it makes sense. Those that fit...

The Books That Could Have Been...

Re: David Zindell's... I just wanted to talk about books. :) They interest me more then movies. Plus- I figured it would be a good topic for farming ideas. Requiem sounds interesting- any book that is put up against Dune is worth a look. SD

    Is D&D outdated ?

Re: Re: Re: Is D&D outdated ? Err- ok. If you don't think combat is a complicated matter, then there is little I can do to change that. But considering your tone- I suspect your one of those "true" roleplayers (or a troll) . So, on that note you are probably playing the wrong game. It was...

Which type of d20 System product is overdone?

I agree. I would like to see a book that explores different fantasy societies/governments- and even shows them during different times of their duration- beginning, middle, and end. That way they could be jigsaw'd into a campeign with more ease. SD

The Books That Could Have Been...

Salutations, As I was Reading Enforcer's post in the Riverworld thread, I was thinking it is a shame there are some books out there that have a great premise, but a lousy execution. What books come to mind for you? For me: Darwinia In the 1910's, Europe disappears and is replaced by a...

monks . . . we don't need no stinking monks

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re Yes, but not all classes are "pulling their own weight" in all encounters. Throw a group of monks at the party and watch the wizard fade into a useless grappled mess. Heck, bring a first level wizard on an adventure and watch him be useless. ;) (I know from personal...

Which type of d20 System product is overdone?

I would have to agree on settings, but not because I don't want to see anymore. I would just like to see some that are different from every other one. I am hoping Midnight does that. SD

monks . . . we don't need no stinking monks

Re: Re: Re: Re There is a player in my group who loves monks- he has shown that use of the extended movement, tumble, and spring attack makes him capable in most melee combats. Granted- he is not doing a lot of damage, but he is not taking it either. SD

I am a bit surprised this piece of fiction upset you more then that issue. Especially since they made it quite clear they (Dragon) handled that issue maturely and saw no problem with the direction dragon was going. I cancelled my subscription then. No amount of rhetoric is going to make a...

    Is D&D outdated ?

That is because combat is the complicated part of rpg's. Do you want the rules on how to solve a mystery? Search check - DC: 10 + HD of villian. Character Development: Outside of leveling a character? Do you want rules stating the personality of your character? Ugh. World Exploration? There...
