    [Dragon] Lord, the cheese...

Paizo made it pretty clear during the BoVD issue fiasco that the (im)Mature aspects were going to be a standard direction of the magazine. Their past behavior has proven that to be true. I cancelled my subscription. It is a shame- I would like to enjoy the main periodical for my hobby. SD

    D20 Cities books

I am still reading through this (hey, it is 300 pages long), but I like this book so much it is center of my upcoming homebrew. Bluffside is also very well done- and is going to be used as well. I like Freeport a lot, but already used it for my current group. SD

    I am officially a wimp

Once their view on BWP is clear- I just don't discuss horror with them. It puts you where most internet posters are- of passing interest. I try not to bother to recall the personal views of people who I don't know- regardless if I agree with them or not. SD

Sounds solid- I am probably tapped on gladiator-related npc's, but I will keep thinking. :) SD

    Wanted: city based mystery

Murder mysteries always end up horrible for me, but here is something I stole from somewhere (don't recall where) that actually worked out for me: A small bard outfit starring/owned by two brothers is staying at an inn. There is obvious animosity between the brothers (jealousy and greed), but...

    I am officially a wimp

I consider it the standard by which I know who I can talk with about horror movies. Those people that did not like it have their horror opinions ignored. Those people that liked it are at least given a chance. It has worked out pretty well in conversations. SD

    New guy at Fantasy Flight

I thought so too- and was planning to get one for every person in my group.. Until I saw it had traps for T&T in it. Ugh. I don't want the players to see that. Oh well. SD

Ideas for a one off game

In the past, when a break like that appears in a long term campeign, I would allow them to use their characters but in an alternate universe that was a twisted version of the one they knew. They tended to enjoy that. SD

    The problem of saves.

Instead of putting take "10" into saves- put in a concetration skill check during stressful situations. If they fail, then they suffer a penalty on the save or put the check after a succesful save and if it fails they must make another save the following round. SD

    Half Troll Template or race...

Doesn't the Privateer Press Monsternomicon have a race called Trollkin that are supposed to be that? SD

    The problem of saves.

I would go with this option. Your players should not complain since it affects the npc's as well. How do you plan on implementing the Call? A random check? When you want it to happen? If the former, then make that clear as well- so they know it is not dm fiat out to hurt/help them. SD

How to avoid challenges, and be highly thought of

Re: Re: Re: Re: How to avoid challenges, and be highly thought of They might, but that suggests their life is changing. I am thinking of a farmer who has no plans to be anything other then a farmer, but must deal with the occasionaly goblin raid or dire boar attack. SD

How to avoid challenges, and be highly thought of

Re: Re: How to avoid challenges, and be highly thought of Depending on the campeign world- some commoners may be facing daily concerns of monsters and bandits. I could see a high level commoner- the peasant hero archtype comes to mind. SD
