level 2 spells The thing is, there are a LOT of really good level 2 spells, and one of the significant limitations of the sorcerer is that he normally can't even get all of the top tier ones. Glitterdust Scorching Ray False Life Mirror Image Web Invisibility By level 8, a Sorcerer will know...

Pathfinder 1E What project would you like Paizo to tacke next for Pathfinder?

psionics I agree with you about psionics needing to not just be reflavored magic. If they're going to do psionics, they should probably start with 1) a list of things that are possible/easy with magic but impossible/hard with psionics 2) and vice versa I would suggest that giving psionics...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide Preview

Power Creep The problem is, power creep is an area where Paizo and its fans have divergent interests. Power creep is good for Paizo, because it provides incentives to buy new books. It's bad for the rest of us, because 1) we have to buy new books, and 2) it makes existing characters feel...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide Preview

By the way I'm of the opinion that a lot of the people who argue about class balance on the Paizo boards are players, not GMs, advocating for their favorite class. I certainly can't think of any DMs who would argue that a spell known is equal to a HP for a sorcerer. Ken

level bonuses One way to beef up the weaker martial classes would be to let them add a +1 unnamed bonus to one of their saves at each level, in lieu of a HP or skill point. A fighter with +10 to his will save would be able to cover his major weakness. If I were going down the road of...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide Preview

Well It's a big increase in power, that's for sure. A sorcerer played from lvl 4 to 14 getting 10 new spells known or 10hp? That's a no brainer. Make one of those spells be false life and you aren't even down the HP. I might actually prefer sorcerers to wizards with this change. Ken

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide Preview

Well At least it wasn't the Wizard that got the huge bonus. Maybe he's trying to address perceived imbalances between classes. If Monks , Bards, and Barbarians also get something better than what Paladins, Clerics, and Wizards get, it wouldn't be too bad. Ken

Pathfinder 1E What project would you like Paizo to tacke next for Pathfinder?

Well Obviously some things would have to change. It's just that I don't see Golarion getting a city setting with the level of detail Ptolus possesses any other way. Ken

Pathfinder 1E What project would you like Paizo to tacke next for Pathfinder?

Ptolus You know, I really do agree that Paizo ought to make arrangements with Monte to set Ptolus in Golarion. We're probably never going to see another city supplement to equal it. Ken

Pathfinder 1E What project would you like Paizo to tacke next for Pathfinder?

Overdetailed settings Well, I agree with you about Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance, but I think that had to do with the novels, not overly detailed maps. I'm proposing a map wth villages (primarily those along the river) marked, and one paragraph blurbs on their location. Stuff with this...

Serpent's Skull Yes, as a huge fan of the Savage Tide Adventure Path, I am really looking forward to this one! Ken

    So how's Kingmaker working out?

population James, thanks for your response! That's good to know about the population. I was worried that if I significantly reduced the population figures, it might cause a problem during the part of the AP where the kingdom goes to war. It sounds like that isn't the case! Ken

Pathfinder 1E What project would you like Paizo to tacke next for Pathfinder?

For myself I don't want any of the things in the poll. Well, the Asia themed stuff would be OK I guess, but I don't even need that. What I want, is to have more detailed versions of their region settings books. For example, I just got the mwangi expanse book, Heart of the Jungle. OK, this...

Making everyone a cleric (sort of)

Healing Brett, my experience playing RuneQuest (a game where every PC can heal himself) leads me to disagree with you. In my experience , nothing is lost if PCs can heal themselves. Rather, a role which most players don't seem to want (being the party healer) is no longer needed. How does a...

    So how's Kingmaker working out?

Also I think the setting needs more lairs and significant dungeons to explore. Although, that's pretty easy for me to add on my own, so it's a minor point. Ken

    So how's Kingmaker working out?

hmm I'll need to go back and reread the rules to say definitely, but here are some things that come to mind: 1) it doesn't seem to matter how many towns the PCs create. And their position on the map doesn't seem to matter for purposes of how many hexes the PCs control 2) there doesn't seem...

    So how's Kingmaker working out?

kingmaker I had been planning on running Kingmaker but I have to admit I'm having second thoughts. In some ways, I think this AP takes on too much: 1) being Paizo's first sandbox AP 2) developing rules for building structures 3) developing rules for an economy 4) developing rules for...

How far can the eye see?

complicated You can see a long way if you're at elevation and the atmosphere isn't too hazy, but what you can make out diminishes quickly. For example, I've been to the rim of Ngorogoro Crater in Tanzania. There's a wiki for it here: Ngorongoro Conservation Area - Wikipedia, the free...

Interesting criticism I found about us "RPG guys".

Well The night before last, 5 blocks from my loft in downtown Los Angeles, a mob yanked a cab driver out of his car, beat him, then set his taxi on fire....because they were celebrating the fact that the Lakers won. So no, as far as fans go, I don't think we're particularly rabid. And I echo...

Crashing the game: When the DM doesn't expect resistance

I agree With those in the thread who say you did nothing wrong. In fact, you probably taught the novice DM a valuable lesson. He got to see the consequences of heavyhanded railroading in his very first session, instead of long after he'd developed a bunch of bad DMing habits. It's good that...
