    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

This has been my experience as well. Ken

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

Of course he can learn the rules. That's a strawman argument. But his response on this thread has led me to the conclusion that what he wants from D&D, and what I and my players want, are really different. Given that, it would be a mistake for me to rely on his opinion of 4E to guide my...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

It was inadvertent...I didn't realize they'd changed it. MY generation didn't have a problem with math or gygaxian speech. What's wrong with you kids? ;-)

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

I really don't get it I really don't get the speed argument. Movement has _never_ bogged people down in my games. I mean, how hard is it to call out when you're moving diagonal, "5,15,20,30,35,45,50,60?" It just amazes me that people find this to be difficult. Should we take crit...

    The Reduction of Uncertainty

Wow, I remember when this chart came out...I was in grade school then. We got a lot of laughs out of the 'head pulped and splattered over a wide area' line! Arduin...what a trip. Ken

D&D 4E Is my friend's unwillingness to try 4e irrational?

You haven't given him any reasons _to_ switch that are more valid than his reasons not to. I don't think it's any more irrational to decide not to play 4E without seeing it, than to decide to leave 3.5 for 4E without seeing it. Both you and he have made up your minds without seeing the...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

Yeah, 3.5 does have problems, which you have illustrated well. I would like a solution which fixes them. Unfortunately, I think what WoTC proposes for 4E makes things worse. Here's a quick thought. Unfortunately, I don't have the graphic skills of you guys, so I can't easily put up a...

But this baby will take you from 1-30 in half the time!

I'm confused If I were going to try to get a group to switch versions, I'd cite specific rules and things about the new system that were better than the old one. But, you can't do that now because you don't have the 4E rules. So, my question, is how do you even know you _want_ to switch to...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

I can't believe this. I completely agree with Ainatan.... this is a terrible idea. Actually, it's the single worst rules-related decision I've heard of in 4E. I think the points about the orientation of the grid producing wildly varying outcomes are just irrefutable. 1.4/1 is a huge...

    The New GSL--What we want.

I see no reason to give third party companies exclusivity. The benefits of the OGL as a 'safe harbor' for everyone are maximized if the OGL gives broad rights for everyone to use everyone's content. Ken

D&D 4E Interesting Article on OGL and 4E

You know, I wish modules were lucrative, but when Necromancer Games only does a 1000 copy print run on a module because they are afraid they can't sell 2000, and then they make $7/copy wholesale on each one, because the retailer and the distributor takes the rest, and then they have to pay their...

D&D 4E Interesting Article on OGL and 4E

It isn't a grey line at all. The folks who did True20 were able to do so because WoTC said to them, 'You can use our content, but you have to let everyone else use yours'. It isn't 'a grey line' when someone comes along and re-uses the True20 content. It's exactly what was intended by the...

    Static vs. Tailored Encounters

I prefer to play with static encounters, with the caveat that my world is 'tailored' such that I contrive to make sure that my PCs either have warning of such creatures, or have a means to escape somehow if they encounter them unexpectedly. However, in 3E I run a lot of tailored stuff, because...

Is D&D Really Mythic Roleplaying? Is this what Epic Tier (20th-30th lvl) represents?

This has been tried before, with mixed results. Glorantha, the game world developed by Greg Stafford, has long had the idea that characters would go on 'HeroQuests' in really high-level play. There was a fair bit of support in the game setting for this, and basically no support in the rules...

    Who can climb?

OK, that video amazes me. I have to admit, I wouldn't have thought that was possible. Still, it doesn't change my mind about the worg example. First of all, that dog was able to climb the tree, but he certainly wasn't going to be attacking anything while doing so... it was all he could do...

    Who can climb?

In real life, wolves can't climb trees. I think you have to defer to common sense here. Your players are right. Ken

    Recharging items, particularly staffs

I agree that there should be recharge rules. In my opinion, you shouldn't save a lot of money recharging an item , but you should save a lot of time. Ken

How many doses of poison can be smeared on a weapon?

It does matter, because if you could multiple doses on a blade, you could smear it with 4 different poisons and do damage to 4 different stats. I think the intent is that it's not possible. I have no idea what the specific rules text says. Ken
