Discussing problems with D&D/d20 rules...

Before I could convince you of why rules are needed for these things, I would have to convince you that the statement in your signature is wrong: "Balance and imbalance start, run, and end with the GM and the GM alone. No rule, no system, no player, just GM." Yeah, the GM can tailor the game...

[OT-Rant] What is UP with Talon Comics??

I too am waiting for an overdue order from Talon (or at least an acknowledgement that I sent money :), but he's been good about getting things shipped to me in the past, so I trust they will come eventually.

    Discussing problems with D&D/d20 rules...

If I'm happy with high fantasy but not with d20, do I get to post? :D I think high fantasy is just a matter of taste, but I do believe that d20 is inherantly flawed. (*Waits for Psion to jump on my back.*) My reasons: there are no rules for designing a prestige class, or how to design good...

    Question for Kenzer

Ok, so it *is* possible to cast those 9th lvl Paladin spells, etc., but such a character would have to spend 5 epic feats on Improved Spell Capacity. (And the 9th lvl spells weren't so hot.) Something tells me that wasn't a design decision.

Would You Let a Halfling Rog1 Have this Magic Item?

yes Often, a great magical item, mentor, or form transfiguration can propel 1st lvl characters onto an epic (general use) adventure. Why let then wack at kobolds when you can start them combating on a world menace from the start?

    Question for Kenzer

Ehh... I think the Epic Level Handbook says Paladins, etc. don't receive anymore spells after 20th lvl.

    Question for Kenzer

Why does the Villian Design Handbook contain 9th lvl Paladin and Bard spells? I flipped through it at my local store and noticed this. Unless there was a good reason hidden in the text, this seemed like such a glaring error and possible sign of poor editing that I didn't buy the book as I...

Curious about your present Party Composition

The group I current DM contains A 9th lvl (total) gold elf wizard / mirror master (slightly changed from Monte's original version) A 9th lvl (total) half-elf paladin / rogue / assassin (pretty much ignore multiclassing & alignment restrictions for cool character concepts) A 8th lvl (total)...

    epic monsters

Somewhere i remember reading (or perhaps I dreamed it up) of a planet/plane where Tarrasques run in heards like the buffalo, while being hunted by an even mightier predator. Anyone know where this is mentioned; a Planescape supplement perhaps?

    Dragon #297 arrived

I SO hated the gnome issue, and the world building issue (with its condescending articles that give contradictory advice). With a knife, I liberated my beloved Living Greyhawk Journal from the hog wash that was the rest of those issues. -7th *Grrr*

Please rate Stonghold Builders Guide for me

I think it's a very useful sourcebook. The content can be found nowhere else. The modular approach to designing strongholds is applicable to normal dwellings and dungeons, as well as castles. I recall not liking the writing style when I first started reading it, though, so because of...

Announcing OGL Interlock from Green Ronin & Paradigm Concepts

How much interaction will there be between the complementary supplements? Does this mean you will heavily contribute to each other's books?

REALLY What Was So Bad About 2nd Edition?

Yes, but you have to roll to hit (touch attacks aren't that likely given a wizard's BAB) and the chances of a critical are less than the chances of missing. With both magic missle and burning hands you can hit multiple targets, and you don't have to get in close. Probably not the place to...

Announcing OGL Interlock from Green Ronin & Paradigm Concepts

No offense intended to Green Ronin, I love your sourcebooks (I have all the monster books, The Shaman's Handbook, and Secret College of Necromancy), but I personally am getting tired for the "X and Y" titles. "Eldest Sons" and "The Lords of the Peaks" sound like cooler names to me, just like...

REALLY What Was So Bad About 2nd Edition?

Did ya say it once before? Cuz I must have missed it... Very well then, I will cease and desist. Not like Psion and I have any prayer of changing each other's minds anyways. -7th

REALLY What Was So Bad About 2nd Edition?

It was a joke. I think you are making mountains out of mole hills by attacking my initial post. That was in answer to ColonelHardisson's claim of not seeing any explanation of this before that isn't linked to min/maxing. Apparently he thinks my arguments are linked to min/maxing...

REALLY What Was So Bad About 2nd Edition?

Colonel (can I call you Colonel? :)), I guess I don't quite equate the ability to min/max with balance; maybe my concept of those terms is different/wrong. I think people should be able to make advantageous builds by finding combinations that work well together, for example, Whirlwind...

REALLY What Was So Bad About 2nd Edition?

That's it Psion, you go too far! I never said it was a TRAVESTY of balance. Not perfect is wide open, it means anything but perfect :D If you want to nail me down, fine, I will say it's somewhere between Not quite perfect and a travesty of balance. Just because *you* cannot...
