    Does hardness overcome hardness?

Adamantine apparently ignores its own hardness. I wonder if metal weapons do the same?? ciaran

Dominate Person (Su) - Dispellable or not? (seems to be some confusion)

They can be dispelled. This is why Caster Level is specified under Su generally. If not, use the creature's HD as a guide. ciaran

Aluminium dragon? Taupe* dragon? Oooh, oooh, Cheese dragon!

Just polymorph all dragons in your world to deep dragons. Problem solved. It worked for me (tm). ciaran

saying "you cant" to a pc

He doesn't automatically tell you that you don't get any of the feat's bonuses if you don't have it? Horrifying... You are getting ripped off if the skill is "Untrained Yes". Fewer skills are Trained Only in 3.5. However, Spellcraft is one of those that people just can't fudge on this way...

    Non-Vancian Magic systems

That's an interesting sorceror variant. How is its balance working out? And in response to the first post... check this thread: http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=74422 ciaran

    Is dominate person evil?

"No, not evil" *mouthing it as the person dominating him mentally instructs him to do so*

    Defiling Repertoire

One of my particular additions to the wizard class for my Dark Sun game: Defiling Repertoire: A wizard is able to whet his arcane spellcasting ability, sharpening it in its versatility and destructiveness. A wizard may expand his defiling repertoire at 6th level and every six levels thereafter...

Merging the Sorcerer and Wizard Classes

I could never figure out how this is different from vancian. Aren't you still *cough* preparing spells? ciaran

Vancian Magic - Yes or No?

So by your argument, monsters without statistics and with a bunch of random, unbalanced abilities or the utter lack of spellcasters to create items is also "tradition" I'm just arguing ;) ciaran

    Dragon hide for SALE!

So the Draconomicon sez that dragonhide armour "has no special properties other than its masterwork quality." It also says that the armour itself is immune to the particular dragon type's breath weapon energy type*. It seemed to me that someone just got lazy and didn't bother making any rules...

    Dragon hide for SALE!

God damn Nifft, you're maximally excellent. Is there a quick formula for AC that you use? Also, did you mean prices with above, or manufacturing cost (probably the former)? ciaran

    Streamlining PC buffing

We don't use memorisation in our game, so it's great to use the extra time to prepare spell rotes for buffing. Since I can usually breeze by the players' actions, unless they change them, the process is somewhat expedited. Make your players know their buffing combos and their exact benefits in...

    Angry at players...

Not if there is a common expectation of those secrets being irrelevant to the future of the game. If the players want to play a meta game, then they'll be facing a tough one indeed (ie: one waged with the DM's resources). If I'm talking about something out of character, my players know. I don't...

    Angry at players...

You should punish your players for the having the misconception of being smarter than you. I would use a deep dragon or green dragon instead, putting a monkey wrench in their plans. IMHO, the term "shadow dragon" is nebulous. No NPC is looking at monster manual sheets when talking about some...

    Dragon hide for SALE!

I am interested as well. Back in 2nd edition my DM used to assigned an AC to the armour that is 4 worse than the dragon we pulled it off of. I would like to see a similar, but balanced mechanic, for dragon hide and hide in general (like the kind pulled off of a Nightmare Beast, for example). ciaran

Vancian Magic - Yes or No?

Vancian magic is so stupid, *I* would cheat in a game that forced me to pick my spells in advance. My players and I use spell points. Leaves us more time to play the game (imagine the freedom involved in adding a spellcaster or two to a random encounter). The last time I was in a game with...

    [rant] Balance schmalance

Unintended player death (ie: the death of a player that occurs because you pumped too much, without your knowledge, into an encounter) is bad to deal with. Players losing their characters to stupid, ignoble deaths might force you to fudge your dice rolls, etc. This is bad practice. Instead, use...
