    D&D 4E Problem with 4e Multiclassing

I don't know why they have the stat limits on multiclassing. It seems arbitary and, well, dim. Especially as there's such a poor spread of required stats on them. Anyone got any inkling why they went that route?

    How do wandering merchants survive?

I imagine that they are maintained roads between important settlements, with reasonably regular patrols guarding them. These roads are fairly safe to travel, and the merchants ply their trade up and down them, occassionally venturing a bit further from the beaten track to smaller settlements.

    XP needed for each level

What can we extrapolate from the XP tables about the amount needed for each level? The assumption is that each encounter involves equal PCs and monsters, thus the standard monster award x the number of encounters is the amount needed for the next level. We're told 10 encounters are needed...

    Stirge Art

It's less goofy than the old art, but it looks too mammalian to me.

    D&D 4E Point buy, 4e & you.

Point buy encourages flat, uninteresting stat blocks. Point-for-point opens up characters with both exceptional stats and remarkable flaws. Points buy also penalises character concepts that require two or more high stats. I much prefer 78 points, spend as you like, to points buy. Although, in...

    Warlove? Warhate?

I like it but I'd like to take the person who thought it'd be a good idea to have classes called Warlord and Warlock in the same game outside and shoot them.

I just read the suggested system specs for the D&D Insider Apps

Anyone got a link to these suggested specs? (And, yes, 2.6Ghz p4, not a high spec, at all)

    Tiers Excerpt (merged)

Not to me, it doesn't. The article states that it assumes you will upgrade your powers to higher level ones. It looks to me like you get new powers at higher levels but they take slots you already have. So you get new at will powers; but not more powers available to you at one time.

IF a PDFs of the 3 core books were leaked, would you:

It depends on how they were available, I don't do filesharing networks, but if it was a straight forward download. Sure, I'd take gander. I'd still buy the books though, you can't play from a .pdf and I'm not printing out 900 pages!

    Joy. It's the Buddy's Girlfriend.

I suggest you run an introductory game for her seperate to your main game, ideally on a different night. Get her, her bloke, and one other player along. Tell her boyfriend to talk through and sort out a character for her. Run something light on the rules, and see what she thinks of it. This has...

D&D 4E Will Rule Zero be in 4E?

It says right at the start of the 3e DMG "You get to decide how the rules work, which rules to use, and how strictly to adhere to them. That kind of in charge."

    D&D 4E 4E at the printers...but we don't see it until June?

I wouldn't have thought it'd make much difference, samples would be shipped by air, reply by electronic means - it's not going to add much to your turn around times, plus the time difference might work in your favour. Final stages, you send a couple of guys over and ship back by boat. *shrugs*

    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

Given that a number of significant WotC employees frequent this site, I think it is safe to say that they are aware of this. Since no-one's dropped him a line going *ahem* I think he's in the clear

4e rules will make some games much harder to run

Use minatures. No, seriously. 3.x was designed to be used with minatures and plays better with them. 4th looks to be even further down the path back to the roots of D&D. If you're going to play D&D stop fighting it and play the system the way it was designed to be played (and plays best) or stop...

    Long-Term Injury Fun?

Long Term injuries work well in some games and not in others. D&D and lasting injury doesn't go well. What I will miss is attrition. Some of the best games of D&D I've played in involved situations in which the PCs were never able to get up to full spells and hps and had to struggle through...

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

I never liked 1-2-1, but my concern with 1-1-1 is that it makes circuitous paths much easier to use and thus battlefield control and hazards less useful. I'd consider a houserule that players moving more than their base move must take the straightest route available to them. It's an abuse...

Armor & Coins - please, No.

Where are you getting the notion that Armour Check Penalty is gone from? I can't see anything to support that; and the sample characters for DDXP certainly look like they've had armour check penalties applied to some of their skills.

Armor & Coins - please, No.

I'm quite pleased to see medium armour gone; it never had a comfrtable niche anyhow. Makes sense to me; quick wits rather than quick hands. Judging your opponents attack pattern; thinking through your defense; not doing anything stupid.
