    Counter to Spike Growth?

And on that note - Dragon Turtle... Looks pretty tough. The steam breath attack looks like it will really put the sh*t up the party!!! :)

    Counter to Spike Growth?

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Just to be clear, they don't *always* use Spike Growth and Silence. The party is 5 PCs between 4 players (we were hoping a 5th would return to the group, but fatherhood won't let him go just yet!) - fighter, monk, ranger, thief/illusionist and...

    Counter to Spike Growth?

Nice! Thanks for your reply. I definitely like the 'use dead comrades as stepping stones' option!! I might even let them find a note along the lines of "General Alert - the adventuring band causing such havoc is known to contain a druid who creates vicious spikes. Target this individual with...

    Counter to Spike Growth?

I'm DMing my group through PotA and we're all having a great time. The party have discovered that having the druid cast Spike Growth at any group of mooks is a sure-fire way to take them out of battle, and the monk will often cast Silence at anyone who looks like a caster. Now, one part of me...

D&D 5E Princes of the Apocalypse campaign recaps

April was a long time ago! We are still playing, so here's a quick summary of progress: They cleared the rest of the air temple and then headed back to Feathergale spire to rest. While there they dreamt that friends were in danger in Womford so went to check it out. Turns out Womford was...

D&D 5E Princes of the Apocalypse campaign recaps

Sorry for the long extended silence, I will attempt a rapid recap. The Nettlebee Ranch/Fire Witch quest came up while they were resting in Red Larch. They sided with the revenant and the barbarians and enjoyed it. On the way to Scarlet Moon Hall they were attacked by air cultists on eagles...

D&D 5E What constitutes "DM Friendly" adventure / module in your opinion?

As part of the NPC description, describe how they might fight, or use their spells. Would they cast a defensive spell then attack, a defensive spell then run away, or attack from the off. Or something else entirely. I know some of it depends on the party actions, but several times I have...

D&D 5E Feather Fall hanger on

Casting time for Feather Fall is 'reaction', what does that mean in this instance? If you've fallen 550 feet you are going to be traveling pretty fast. Do you really have time to cast the spell? What are you actually reacting to? Sent from my [device_name] using EN World mobile app

D&D 5E Feather Fall hanger on

Heh! It's literally the first part of the spell description.. Sounds like it's no great loss. :)

D&D 5E Feather Fall hanger on

Was this from the top of Feathergale Spire by any chance? Interesting idea. I would have mentioned the high difficulty skill check but would have allowed it if he wanted to do it. Sent from my [device_name] using EN World mobile app

D&D 5E Advice on dealing with high level characters.

What about having some magical effect within the dungeon that turns them all into some other race. Depending on how much you want to mess with them, you could turn them into bullywugs, gnomes or something more powerful like orcs, yuan-ti or something else. Only you know how your players will...

D&D 5E Princes of the Apocalypse campaign recaps

As usual, the party blindsided me during the combat. The Black Earth guards entered the room and Quarbo stood in the doorway. He cast Slow and only 2 of the 5 PCs failed their save. The rogue/wizard then cast Grease and Quarbo slipped over. Things then got worse for my plan when I read Earth...

D&D 5E Material Components: How Hard to Find in Your Games?

True, although it does offer some easy get outs - the Outlander background basically allows you to handwave the need to forage for food. I've no problem with anyone who wants to pay attention to managing their supplies as part of the game. But the guys I play with aren't too bothered about it...

D&D 5E Changing the alchemist - if I remove the mechanical servant...

To be honest, I don't have the Xanathar book, so don't know anything about the Alchemist. But it sounded like you weren't happy with the spells, so I wondered if multi-classing with another casting class would help. And he doesn't really sound much like a sorcerer or warlock..
