    Crits on Bloodbath

I think technically it's probably right NOT to maximize the effect damage, but because the difference ultimately comes down to whether I give myself a 4 for dagger damage or 1-4, and no one likes to wait around while someone is calculating crit damage, it might be worth it to just squeak this...

    Crits on Bloodbath

I mean, I'm sure I could do whatever and the DM wouldn't notice, and if he did notice, he probably wouldn't care. As far as I can tell though, it would only add 1-3 damage, since I'm guaranteed to roll at least a 1 and can't roll higher than a 4. I might max it out just for the sake of speeding...

    Crits on Bloodbath

Hey Saeviomagy, you're right that the vast majority of the damage comes from maxing Sneak Attack and the associated ongoing. So you're saying I'd max out my 1W (4 on a dagger), then the regular Dex/feat/enhancement damage, then the additional 16 from Sneak Attack (with the Backstabber feat of...

    Crits on Bloodbath

Hi guys, just a quick question about how crit damage works on Bloodbath. It's wonky since it has automatic 1W+Dexterity in the Effect line as well as 1W+Dex on a Hit. If you rolled a critical hit, would the Hit damage and the Effect damage be maxed out or would you still roll separately for the...

    Calculating Bonus Damage

Thanks everybody. So just to get this absolutely straight: Every time I roll for weapon damage (instead of say Sneak Attack), I add my bonuses, which include: +2 magic dagger, +1 weapon focus, +2 Iron Armbands of Power (in melee) This means that for Bloodbath, a melee attack that hits would...

    Calculating Bonus Damage

Samursus, the rule about only adding the bonus for each attack could work, but there's really nothing in the rules that suggests it. All of these bonuses are specifically written to apply to all "damage rolls". Hopefully, if the intent had been to apply the damage bonus once for each successful...

    Calculating Bonus Damage

And would Sneak Attack damage ever gain any sort of bonus? It's a damage roll, but it's not really an attack so much as, you're doing extra damage because he wasn't expecting you.

    Calculating Bonus Damage

NMcCoy, I'm confused by your note. Does this pertain specifically to my question or is it general advice? What do you mean exactly?

    Calculating Bonus Damage

Right, I know to include Dex again, but I'm asking about the damage bonus. I have a +2 dagger and Weapon Focus, so I get +3 to damage on dagger attacks. I'm trying to figure out if I add that bonus twice (once for each time I roll 1[W]+Dex) or just once for the whole attack.

    Calculating Bonus Damage

Hopefully so, but you technically roll twice when you're doing 2[W] and you definitely don't apply bonuses twice there. I understand that for the 2[W] one it really is just one total damage roll, but you could argue that it all amounts to one big damage roll for Bloodbath. Any other thoughts?

    Calculating Bonus Damage

I think variants of this have been around but I haven't found a post that quite addresses this. My understanding is that you only apply bonus damage (like +2 damage from a +2 dagger) once for each attack. So if you use an attack that does 2[W]+Dexterity, you're only adding the +2 once even...

    When to Apply Sneak Attack

    Sounds good. Thanks.

    When to Apply Sneak Attack

Hey guys, 5th-level Rogue here re-evaluating how he uses his SA. I've mostly been ignoring the rule that you can wait to apply SA until after you've rolled damage because I like rolling my Weapon and SA damage at the same time, and it usually doesn't seem to matter. However, I can see some...

    Acrobatic Strike Confusion

Actually, I guess this would pretty much do it: "Many powers produce effects that take place regard- less of whether your attack roll succeeds, and other powers have effects that occur without an attack roll being required." (PHB p.59) So sometimes there's an associated attack roll and...

    Acrobatic Strike Confusion

Thanks everyone. Obviously I'm most pleased with the idea that most Effects occur regardless of a successful attack roll. That would make the power work as I expected. Just to be safe, can you point me to a reference in the PHB or other material that spells this out?

    Acrobatic Strike Confusion

Hey there, I'm a 4th level human Rogue and I'm thinking about retraining one of my At-Wills for Acrobatic Strike in Martial Power 2. I'm confused by the wording that says that on a hit, you can shift before or after the attack. Shifting after the attack makes perfect sense, but how does...

    Taking tokens off the board?

I think the rules are a little ambiguous here. For instance, you obviously don't know the positions of creatures behind a door before an encounter begins. And once an encounter starts, if a creature runs into a new room and shuts the door behind it, I wouldn't expect to know the layout of that...

    Taking tokens off the board?

Okay Black Knight, that seems like a good option to offer to my DM. It's also much less work for him if he only has to mentally track the few monsters that are hiding instead of everyone outside our LoS. I'm not entirely sure what you're saying about targeting, though. I think I meant "can't...

    Taking tokens off the board?

With this much argument I'm guessing this is basically down to house rules. However PHB2 says this about Invisible Creatures and Stealth: If an invisible creature is hidden from you, you can neither hear nor see it, and you have to guess what space it occupies. If an invisible creature is not...

    Taking tokens off the board?

I agree with Samir's post the most so far. It makes sense to me that characters would stay on the board when they've left LoS but they would disappear when they've actively hidden themselves through Stealth or Invisibility. Since those effects are actually meant to disorient the player, they...
