    The Whitehall Club writes [(3⅞/0º)^½]ə

Actually, I think it would work well for a minis/battlemat tactical tabletop game.

    Animal Companion and weapons

    Hmm... true enough.

Your knowledge, can I borrow it.

MMII has a little something for skellies that lets them cast a few spells. Can't find mine or I'd be more specific.

starting PC wealth for level 2

Yup. There is a table in the DMG near the treasure tables and the generic NPC lists... towrds the front....

Reading higher level scrolls - how?

When a scroll is made (or a potion or a wand) all decisions about casting the spell are made at scribing. A 10th level Wiz can make a scroll of Magic Missile but set at first level as per the description for the spell. It then would be a 1st level scroll. He/she could also set it as caster...

    Animal Companion and weapons

A trick alone and it would still be non-proficient, a feat alone it may not know when to use it, but both.... That's how I'd make you do it.

    Rare Material Components

Been running this idea for three years without a hitch. Blessed/Refined components (calcinated silver powder) equal a '+1' feat, caster level, or level check. Enhanced 'easy' components (half-fire elemental bat guano, eye of Hadean newt) are equal to a '+2' feat, caster level or level check...

    Material Substitution

How would the costs of potions, wands and scrolls be effected?

half as many skills - half as many skill points?

Definately leave the skill points as they are. I've also used Hawken's 'classes that get 2 pts/ level now get 4' because I try to encourage skill use, so I'll suggest it too. Combining skills seems like a good idea if you want to re-do the list. But once its done, its done, eh...

    [Campaign Development] The Goblinoid Host

Lots to respond to here.... What exactly do you think your PCs will hope to accomplish? Meaning, what is the big Problem for the PCs to overcome? The Goblinoid Horde? You've got them one step ahead of it, and its more of a Threat than a Problem. Warning the South? Not very involving...

    Nightsticks

I suppose a High Cleric could also 'allow' an acolyte to carry it on a sacred pillow and still possess it. I think I'd be less strict about the pontiff of a faith that has one of these in a church vault possessing it by at least involving a prayer ritual involving it physically somehow, but you...

    Intelligent Item PC?

Would 'Art' be the controller of a sophisticated construct then? I can see it now... Art controls a humanoid and 'becomes' a wizard. This Wizard creates a Shield Guardian for Art to 'become' next. Maybe an adamantium golem. Art dreams of becoming an...wait for it... artifact! Oooooh! Art...

    true strike Scorching Ray question

Area effect attacks don't need True Strike either. Hard one. Displacement has a specific counter so its hard to get a general, easy fix. Can't think of a way that's less than three steps to pull off. 1. Glitterdust/True Seeing 2. True Strike (if you need it) 3. Attack spell.

    a Ranger/Scout merged variant

For a wilderness warrior not actually dedicated to the woodlands would you consider removing the spells then? The Ranger gets power from the woods and reflects the mystical connection between him/her self and the wilds. Would your warrior then get something else instead? Not so much a...

The Santa thread, Part 2 : Childhood revelations

I was 10. I was angry too. It wasn't the biggest factor in my juvenile delinquency but it was an underlying factor in my GIANT sudden mistrust of adults and their so-called authority. I hated being a kid because of the general unfairness and indignity of sitting at the little table at...

    Failed 1st level classes?

Love this idea, too. Remember, it's not a 'waste' if you think it's cool. Of course I'm the guy who likes the challenge of three 9s, a 10, an 11 and a 13 for stats. Whatever.

ry's Threats, Rewards, Assets, and Problems (TRAPs)

The Problem is the difficulty the PCs must overcome, solve or mitigate. The Threat is the immediate motivator. They can look like the same thing sometimes... like a forest fire. They can involve different aspects of the same thing... The Druids needing to complete a ritual as a forest fire...

    Most overlooked feat?

Run. Especially if you spent a lot of time in dungeons. It is great in the open field, but how many of these are there?

    Skill Groups

I agree. Combinations may make sense for certain characters but not others. If economizing skill points is the goal then wouldn't DMs expanding skill lists with more points to spend achieve the same end while allowing for desert characters not knowing how to swim?
