[Dungeon] Top 30 Greatest Adventures Discussion (Spoilers)

I don't know about updating the top thirty, but I think updating and re-producing a few of them would do very well. I've never run the G-D-Q series all the way through, for instance. I'd like to run them, I don't think I'd have any trouble finding new and old players to play them, and I don't...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

I've gotta say, there is a part of me that envies the players and longs to be in there hacking through the dungeon with them. But then the part of me that enjoys watching player characters suffer beats the part of me that wants to play senseless. Such is the lot of the conflicted GM... cheers,

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Oh, Int 8 characters are lots of fun, at least for a while (especially when they're played by Very Smart People, which my players are). Besides, all those smarty-pants characters pass up on the obvious deathtraps. Where's the fun in coming up with deathtraps if at least some characters don't...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Yeah, but I just didn't feel right kicking it up another notch. :D Slightly more seriously, the scaling has been useful. There have been a couple of spots where I've scaled it down (usually because there were only a couple of people on that night) and a couple of spots where I've scaled up...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

My gang didn't make it to that room, but I think it's okay. It's 6d6 damage, so an average of 21 hp, reduced to 10 if you make the save. Most 2nd or 3rd level PCs can handle that. You're also only hitting one PC at a time, so after the first one gets crisped they have a chance of rethinking...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Maybe they shouldn't have messed with the idol. Well, looks like my PCs found out the hard way that 4th level characters have a tough time with 10d6+10 lightning traps. All hail Room B45, for it done smoketh three PCs tonight! cheers,

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

The best part is that you guys are British, so your adventures sound all cultured to stupid Americans like me. :) Seriously, sounds like you all are having fun! cheers, Chris Aylott

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Best estimate is that they'll go through 6 characters each if they go directly to the exit, and around 11 characters each if they try to see every room. "Moderate it" would be a better description. The tone of the campaign is best summed up by the fact that the paladin is named Twinky...

World's Largest Dungeon: How do they eat?

There's always the fallen corpses of your comrades... (Which make good trade goods, too.) cheers,

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Oh, I have to share this one. I'm running a play-by-post game on Live Journal. http://www.livejournal.com/community/spacecrime_wlg/ should anyone want to check it out or add it to the blog lists. The party hits A113, plays with the fire pillar for awhile. They mostly figure out that good...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

That's more or less what I'm doing. Currently running section A, reading section B in detail, leafing through section C. May have to look ahead to E if the party keeps heading north, but as long as I'm looking five minutes ahead then I'm good. My players are a low-on-planning high-on-hacking...

Why should I care about the FLGS?

While I like Dr. Awkward's argument, I don't think it applies well to the average game store. Local businesses can do good things for a local economy -- Northampton is a case in point, since its unique businesses draw customers from throughout the region -- but most game stores are too small to...

Why should I care about the FLGS?

Probably not. If you're talking about Castle Perilous in Illinois, though, I have a chatting acquaintance with the owner. No first-hand experience with the store, I just like the guy who runs it. :) cheers,

Why should I care about the FLGS?

I am increasingly convinced that it is counterproductive for LGS fans to exhort other people into "supporting" local game stores. When it comes right down to it, there is no good reason to "support your FLGS", and telling people to do so just creates backlash threads like this one. Maybe it's...

    D&D's 30th anniversary announcement

The game day sounds promising, especially if I can do some dry runs on my own to work out the kinks over the summer... intrigued,

    Basic D&D rides again!

Actually, I think the Adventure Kit does a pretty good job at what it's supposed to do. What needs to be improved -- and I stress that I mean this in the " I think this can be done better" sense, not the "this is done wrong" sense -- is that I've seen parents and kids get just a little bit...

OK, WTF's up with my game store?

My first thought was that the store may be having trouble with a magazine supplier -- I don't know if Kenzer & Co deals with the likes of Ingram Periodicals, but I've learned through bitter experience that magazine distributors can be twits when dealing with small accounts. Based on the...

    Basic D&D rides again!

Actually, I suspect the basic kit is going to look at lot like an updated and improved version of the current D&D Adventure Game introductory boxed set. Which is a good thing, mind you. I've used that kit to turn a lot of kids on to D&D over the last few years, and I think it'll be even...
