Let's say I want to begin with Scarred Lands... What do I need?

reply I am a big fan of the scarred lands, and run a campaign there. The main thing you need is also the cheapest: the Ghelspad Gazeteer. It's pretty thin, but packed with geographic and geopolitical information that you will need. I would also recommend buying (in this order) Creature...

[POLL] What's the D&D gaming level "Sweet Spot?"

I voted for 10-12 I'm a little surprised that the levels are so low; I have a feeling it may be because there are many more gamers who have not played higher levels than those who have. Within the last six months, I played in a party where we got to about 15th level (highest ever for me), and...

[POLL] What's the D&D gaming level "Sweet Spot?"

Another thread here has sparked my interest in this question: What character levels in D&D consitute your opinion of the "sweet spot" in a campaign, and why? Be sure to specify whether your vote counts more from a player's perspective, or a DM's.

[OT] sociology paper- how does mainstream society view Gamers

<clears throat> um, well... I guess I could venture an idea. I think there are stratums within a given gaming community, but these trends would reflect the same stratums if all involved were not gamers. That is, as others have mentioned, if a person has problems socializing in some way, that...

2nd vs 3E rules. Most difficult transition?

I can think of absolutely nothing that has become more complicated going from 2e to 3e. Combat is even simpler, if you consider how entangled it had gotten with the Skills & Powers rules subset, which, let's face it, a lot of hardcore gamers used and/or tried to use. If I had to pick a spot...

Do you use Psionics in your campaign?

I do NOT use psionics I bought the book, flipped through it, read some of it, and shelved it. In my opinion, psionics really does not belong in a fantasy world. It's far more fitting to science fiction, I think. Magic is cooler, more believable, and usually more mysterious.

    Players Handbook II

I wouldn't mind seeing a truly REVISED PHB, perhaps in a couple of years, where they could iron out a few of the rules, and tweek a few classes to make them more balanced perhaps, but a totally new PHB would be erroneous. Why? Because I already use many books from multiple publishers, to a...

Please rate the Dirty Fighting feat

I gave it a 3 because some rogues or clerics might find it fairly useful (before they gety multiple attacks), even if it is worthless in the long run.

What flavor does your campaign have?

For what it's worth... I am somewhat loathe to admit it, but I really don't base my campaign on many books, but Tolkien's work obviously shines through. The French artist Moebius has a series that came out in the mid 70's called the Airtight Garage; mine has certain aspects of that...

Invisibility -- In-Game Explanation for No Attacking?

I didn't really feel like reading this whole thread, but it's an excellent question. Here's what I do. Regular (not improved) invisibility works sort of like a flickering hologram. This description works even better (I think) when using a ring or cloak of elvenkind. When a person attacks...

What you want in a module

Someone had much earlier mentioned that most adventures follow all the same old tired cliche's, and assume way too much about a party; I couldn't agree more. It seems like most adventure modules assume that simple gold, or "doing the right thing" is enough to motivate PCs to *follow the path*...

[OT] Star Wars Episode II: AOTC - Easter Egg Hunt

Ok, I have to ask, (at the risk of sounding like an idiot). What the heck is a fracktle mandelbrot, bro?

    Favourite race/class combo

Nightfall, please don't take this too seriously! I too would be happy if SL stuff came out sooner, but PLEASE don't let them start pushing out rush-jobs just to make a quick sale! As, is, the SL quality is top-of-the-line. I own most of the products.

[OT, Starwars] He has seen the light... maybe...

wait wait wait I really must point out here that you are flat-out wrong. Ripley was a 'super' hero[ine].... she sure did use a machinegun.... and I believe that even a thermonuclear device was used at some point or another (maybe not, but it wouldn't have been out of place). And if you think...

The Book of Vile Darkness -- bad idea?

It's not that the thought of 'evil' makes me squeamish. What I meant to say was that the thought of a book so incredibly evil that reading it could cause you to go insane (that must be pretty evil, right?) just seemed like probably the darkest thing in the whole game. And yes, I get it: that's...

The Book of Vile Darkness -- bad idea?

I have to admit that even I find the idea a little uncomfortable, seeing as so many gamers are acting so squirrelly and delighted to be getting a book that, even in its DMG description has always made me a little squeamish. Frankly, at the risk of sounding offensive and borderline slanderous, I...

[OT, Starwars] He has seen the light... maybe...

I agree. The tear in the eye might be a little overzealous, but the point was well made. :) I too was not expecting much from Episode I. And that being the case, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. And, probably just like so many other fans, after a while I started seeing all the weeknesses...

GAMING FRONTIERS: A $20 magazine! Are they nuts?

I would just like to add this.... I have a friend from work, and we frequently go for coffee suring the day, and sometimes we head to Barnes & Noble where he looks for art magazines (he is into painting). While I might shell out 6 bucks for an issue of EGM (which is basically a waste of...

What magic item would you want in real life?

Ring of 3 wishes: 1.) Ring of infinite monster summoning; DO you realize how fun it would be to summon horde of vile monsters to do raze the city and/or the workplace, and have no one have a clue you did it??? 2.) ring of invisibility 3.) eyes of charming The ring of sustenance would...

Deities and Demigods ~ Thank You God!

Re: Re: I Hate to say this folks... Sorry, I double checked it last night, it is called the Ruins of Albythor or something like that, and it is actually not set in the SL. Having not actually read it yet (still reading through Burok Torn after just finishing Mithril: City of the Golem), I...
