    D&D 4E Worst House Rules You've Encountered in 4E

This is *exactly* my problem with it. If a wizard wanted a fireball that knocked out everyone, well ok. Perhaps instead of fire, it draws out all the oxygen in the room. But being able to knock out a specific individual while killing the rest? Silly.

    D&D 4E Worst House Rules You've Encountered in 4E

Knocking out a goblin with a fireball or lightning bolt is frankly ridiculous. Especially when you consider that the player can (as per the rules) decide that person A, B, and D are killed, but person C is knocked cold. Hunh?? In my game, you can knock out people only with a melee attack...

    House Rule: Karma Points

Interesting! I didn't think that my players might pick paragon/epic classes based upon a slightly more open action point schema. And thanks for that link, I may incorporate some of your ideas there.

    House Rule: Karma Points

Criticism is always welcome, of course! And it's only the negative kind that spurs someone to improve something, right? Yes, I should have stated that more clearly, but I sort of buried it in the text. My primary problem with action points are that they are too dependable (and the example I...

"Ale and Whores" - looking for a more exciting action point mechanic

Take a look at my Karma Points thread below. It was me looking for an alternative to Action Points that made my try and design something new. There hasn't been a lot of feedback on it unfortunately (perhaps I'm too verbose!).

    House Rule: Karma Points

After the d20 roll, but before the DM announces the result. Most of the time, you know if you're close to hitting, and adding a d6 or two might make the difference. That's what this option is for. The "all the dice must be rolled at the same time" is so that the game isn't bogged down by, "I...

    House Rule: Karma Points

Or Luck Points, Hero Points, what have you. I’ve been unhappy with how action points work in 4E, so I decided to work on a house rule that ‘fixes’ my own problem with it. I included in this system a way to help players add bonuses to poor rolls as well. I’m looking for useful comments or...

Stalker's Obsidian Skill Challenge in Play...

Damn skippy. I've used it through all your versions, and tinkered with it; the system works wonderfully.

Arkham Horror as a PbP RPG?

I thought I'd post this, even though the thread is a bit old. RPGnet Forums I'm in a thus-far successful PBP game of Arkham Horror, utilizing all the rules and a shortened board, plus roleplaying! It's great. (You may need to register for rpg.net if you haven't already).

    Your gateway game of choice

I recently introduced my 10 year old daughter to board gaming with Arkham Horror. She did surprisingly well, I didn't have to hold her hand very much after the first few attempts, and to hear her tell her uncle that she, "killed a Gug, and killed Ithaqua with two swords!" was quite cute.

    Making your own power cards

I have a quick question (although I do want to take a moment to thank you ALL for such great work). I know that there are always going to be new iterations of the cards, as there will be new books coming out all the time. But what I like to do with the cards is make customized versions -...

    Wound System

I have this thread on my list of 'favorites'. The systems here I've liked, but not loved, and I've been hard pressed to figure out where they went wrong. Your ideas here 77IM are great, and I'll probably use this with only minimal change (specifically, like what you refer to, the difference...

    Pre-Game Documents

Actually, these aren't bad. I opened these with the thought that it would be a train wreck of a DM's paranoia and control issues - but I was wrong. There aren't many harsh rules, and most of them seem common sense, but important to get out of the way if you're gaming with a group of strangers...

    Vision and Light Question

I couldn't agree more, Stalker. I recently 'nerfed' the sunrod in my game to be far, far more expensive.

Wait, what..?? There are so many things wrong with this statement that I'm stunned.

    Sleeping In Armor

I'm not a big fan of character's sleeping in armor. To me, it's just not in genre - and therefore worthy of a small houserule. What are your thoughts on this, readers? I'm looking to keep it fairly simple, and yet be a penalty. So if you have any suggestions, please let me know. Light...

    Cleric Feat for your review

I intend upon writing up a number of Channel Divinity feats for the deities in my world, and I'd like feedback on them. Here's the first, which is rather a simple one. I wanted a feat that didn't necessarily have an obvious combat effect, as befitting the saint of knowledge and learning. Too...
