    4e and me

Actually, you're right. My apologies to everyone. I should have just bowed out completely.

    4e and me

EDIT: A totally worthless post on my part. Apologies all, carry on.

    Arabic Legends, Themes & Phrases

An interesting and perhaps at least tangentially interesting bit of trivia: the star Algol comes from the Arabic "al ghul," which means "the ghoul."

Which Essentials class do you like the most?

The Fighter. A no nonsense, get-to-the-point warrior that doesn't suck appeals to me the most and was really fun to play.

    D&D 4E Disillusionment from 4E

Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah, I have SW and played it over the course of a couple of months. It has a lot of good points. However, our group abandoned it for these main reasons: -We couldn't shake the perception that Agility was the god stat. -Players got frustrated by shaken results. -It...

    D&D 4E Disillusionment from 4E

You're not alone. I've tuned out to 4e, mostly because there are too many moving parts to keep track of, both at character creation and in actual play. So I'm not in to it, but sadly none of the other editions appeal to me. 3.x/Pathfinder have the same option bloat as 4e. I haven't played...

Mike Mearls, I am calling you out! (Legends & Lore 6/28)

    Which one has the goatee?

    A Good Fighter/Rogue/Wizard Build?

I'll echo the other posters who recommend hexblades. Sneak Attack? They don't sneak attack like a rogue, but they do a bit of extra damage each time they attack that could be fluffed as zeroing in on weakness. Thief Skills? Hexblades have high Charismas, so they'll be able to Bluff well. In...

    The Future of D&D

I think this is a good observation. They'll just let the brand lie fallow, more or less, and wait a couple of years.

    D&D-ism you would sacrifice?

Yeah, I'd drop clerics. I'd go a bit further and drop the idea that divine magic is separate from arcane magic. A cleric would be basically a type of figher/magic-user.

D&D 4E Is Paragon Tier the "sweet spot" of 4E? And other ruminations on the tiers

For me, 4e started breaking down at around 12th level. The Paragon and Epic games I've played and DMed in were all slogs. IMO, right now Paragon and Epic tiers are simply higher level versions of Heroic tier, with combats that take too long. I think more monsters and adventures might help, but...

Rule of Three 6/13/2011: "semi-obscure but flavorful setting" in Dungeon and Dragon

My vote is Red Steel, which, admittedly, is probably at least a bit more obscure than "semi-obscure." :) My second guess is Birthright.

Why do you subscribe to DDI?

I like getting immediate access to what's current with D&D. I like the freedom of being to look up a rules question, monster, power, or other thing via the Compendium.

    Unearthed Arcana: Combat Velocity

If a player thinks up a clever plan to eliminate lots of monsters quickly, I'm actually inclined to not only give full xp for the encounter but also to award an xp *bonus* (or some other reward like a boon or treasure) for creative thinking. Who cares if it spoils a carefully thought out xp or...

    D&D 4E New to 4ed Wizard Class

Could you be more specific? Like, what do you think an illusionist should be able to do that can't be done by a 4e wizard? I ask because the 4e wizard has an illusionist build with a lot of illusion magic.

Rule of Three and THEMES! FINALLY THEMES!!!!

Regarding immediate actions, I do think those powers need an overhaul. In addition, for simplicity's sake I'd like to fold immediate actions in with opportunity actions. Or, rather, I'd like to give everyone one immediate action per turn, and opportunity attacks would be a form of immediate...

Your PC is a cleric: what deity do you revere?

FWIW, on the various D&D podcasts the D&D pronounce it like "say-ha-neen." I chose Ioun as the god, because I want to play an avenger of Ioun some day. I know, an avenger is not really a cleric, but it's close enough IMO. :)

How do you make Liches interesting?

If I felt the lich didn't have the array of combat powers or abilities I think it should have access to, I'd just give it whatever powers or abilities I think it needs until I've convinced myself it's good enough. I'd base the new abilities on those used by other wizard- or spellcaster-themed...

Seeker and Rune priest support idea

I think folding classes like the seeker and runepriest into other classes is a good way to go. Runepriest definitely works as a cleric IMO, and I could see the seeker as being either a druid or ranger. I also agree that avengers and invokers could be types of cleric. One other more or less...
