    L5R gaijin cultures

Swashbuckling Adventures/7th Sea. Its hard to say if the timelines run concurrent though. In the canon a permenant wall of fire surounds rokugan seperating it from the rest of Theah, however its evident that there is a way around it by the unicorn, etc..

You've got physics in my D&D!

You could always just allow the save and throw really high penalities at it for the circumstance. If by some strange odds they succed, it becomes one of those freak things that even seem to occur in real life.

Sailors on the River of Worlds- Update

Gith pirates seem like they could be a good choice for extra villians to help break things up. Also, it could be interesting to take a cue from spelljammer and bring in some neogi/umberhulks for extra fun. Also, for episodics references have you seen the Joss Whedon show Firefly? That could be a...

    Law vs Chaos

I have to second Piratecat's suggestion, or read any Moorcock for that matter, Corum, Hawkmoon, and some of his other none 'mutiverse' books are ok too. The central element would be that law and chaos need balance, where good vs evil doesn't neccesarly need them. The theme to law vs chaos...

Sean Reynolds' new company press release

There are a host of points I could make based on somethings people have said since my last post, but instead I'll just say two things for now. Thank you to those who see my points and agree, or atleast think on similiar lines. Second, I never made it a point to say specificly limb loss dealt...

Sean Reynolds' new company press release

Whos logic? Sorry, I just don't agree on a lot of those points. That must mean that I'm wrong. I think thats over generalizing, and you don't have to study rocks or wood very long to figure out there are ways to utilize stress points to cause fractures, etc.. There is a world of difference...

Sean Reynolds' new company press release

Well, there is one minor quible. It could be said that the grain of wood or rock is a vital area, when enough preasure is applied against the grain that it'll break. Someone could strike a block of wood all day and only end up harming their hand, but someone trained like a martial artist, could...

So you got "The Book of Iron Might", what do you think.

I can't wait for the print version of this book, hopefully it won't be on the high end price range. It reminds me of the cool things that can be done in AEGs d10 system, used for both L5R and 7th Sea. Where you call 'raises' to do extra cool abilities or to do things with style, every raise adds...

Confessions of a mostly competent GM

The thing with swashbuckling games is a lot of the time the trouble just comes to them. It might be forced, or whatever, its about the drama not the logic, things don't have to make sense. Some times people get mistaken for others, or they walk in to the wrong place at the wrong time, or the...

Sean Reynolds' new company press release

So, what if the Feat says, after years of studying differant fighting techniques used against Undead, you have discovered vital spots no one else was previously aware of. You now can use sneak attack damage against Undead. That satisifies all claims and in my opinion is quite viable. Instead of...

    Another TPK - Sigh.

I think some here maybe entirely missing swrushing's point. From what I can tell, I pretty much agree with his statements. Which arn't really about the rule mechanics he has pointed it out, those are just imo to show a base line. The point is, that ForceUser by the comments he made was just...

I'd be really interested in that as well. (as to The New Argonauts).

Sean Reynolds' new company press release

I see some things being said here that I find a little absurd. I for one probably will look forward to Sean's products, but I don't want anyone telling me what is or isn't right for my game. If I want armor as DR or Sneak attack damage vs Undead as a feat, no one has any business telling me its...

    Another TPK - Sigh.

It looks like a lot of you agree with/share this same attitude. I'd like to chime in and say a few things. I tend to be in the other camp of there were other options, perhaps that you didn't even think of. It sounds like your players are 'ok' with it, but I'd make sure. From my outsiders...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

I've been using half-standard xp, and throwing in bonus rewards. I'm not quite happy with this, as it seems like the leveling is a little slow, but its not 'too' bad. Its been about 3-4 sessions a level. I might just add more bonus rewards.

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Yes, thats correct. Also, A33 is listed twice once as the room and once as the encounter.. which I thought was somewhat confusing when I first came upon it.

    Critique my campaign idea

With a setting like thism I'd have to turn to my one of favorite authors George RR Martin. Perhaps make one of the sons fall in love with one of the PCs sisters at a fair/tournament. Then steal off with her one night, perhaps she could even be betrothed to one of the other PCs. Then perhaps the...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

I'd say leave the numbers. Having clues about secret doors isn't so bad really. Whats the fun if the PCs miss all the secret doors? Plus, the players might not realize it, atleast not right away.

What's a good D&D campaign setting for a beginning DM?

Well, I think with any game or any setting that you have to make a choice, in wether or not you are going to use the initial materials, and fill out the rest yourself, or stick to the established material and let the designers flesh it out for you. You don't have to use any published material if...
