If you are just modifying a prepainted plastic, I wouldn't suggest using primer at all. Just paint the mini the way you want, and spray it with either a matte or gloss sealant. Let the first coat of sealant dry, and then spray again. That should protect it enough.

I could see that if the character was already Evil, as "showing their true colors" implies. I mean, that sort of pushes the envolope a bit, in what determines Evil. We all make lapses in Judgement, we are prone to mistakes. If it was just a matter of the character revealing its true intentions...
