(Mongoose) Wraith Recon Announced for 4e

Sounds very interesting, I'm going to check it out when it gets released.

Merric's thoughts on "Against the Giants" (DDM)

I'm guessing this is why WotC doesn't think it is a problem.

Merric's thoughts on "Against the Giants" (DDM)

Thanks for the post. Is it fair to assume that this is why we've seen Metallics in the DoDs and AtG even though they didn't make the MM? Last minute cuts in the Monster Manual?

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

One thing that I like about the new spell system is that a person doesn't have to choose between memorizing an out of combat spell or a combat spell. Also, with spells being memorized at the start of the day in earlier editions it tended to negate the benefits of a large, diverse spell list...

That's it; I am done buying minis'!

Well WOTC can't really force people to play DDM and DDM hitting the scene didn't suddenly remove all the old options. As much as it bothers some people, there are people out there like me that on occasion prefer DDM to other options. It seems like there is plenty of room in the hobby for DDM...

Adamant Ventures 4th early as well

That puts them one up on TSR. Any data you can link to back up your claim that WOTC hasn't expanded the base of gamers?

That's it; I am done buying minis'!

Let me add onto the Auggie's love, $234 for a complete set of Against the Giants is amazing. I defy anyone to emulate the AtG 60 figure set using nonrandom minis for less than $234. I like stuff like Confrontation and Games Workshop, but they are really expensive. Plus transporting my...

    Why do people hate Elfkind?

Because they make their cookies soo unhealthy, but soo good.

    Cost of Core Books PDFs

Thanks for your response, but isn't there a middleman between WOTC and retailers that isn't there for PDF's?

    D&D miniatures arrived today!

I used to buy cases and sell the extras, but the last few sets I've just bought complete sets with some duplicates. I also like the look of new Confrontation pre-painted line. If you like Sci-Fi RPGs I saw a pre-painted line that was doing those types of figures, but I don't remember the name.

    Cost of Core Books PDFs

I'm looking at the Monte Cook products and the mode discount for their pdf's is easily around 50% if not more.

    Cost of Core Books PDFs

I didn't phrase my response right, I don't think WOTC thinks it is really a reasonable price, it is the price they are setting as fan service to the FLGS. As others have pointed out WOTC at one point was planning to sell PDFs to book owners for about a buck. That is a $20 difference from what...

    Cost of Core Books PDFs

Here's the thing, I don't think they are setting it at what is reasonable. I think they are setting it at a price that won't have impacts on their distributors or game stores. Right now they are setting the costs of the PDF at a higher rate than what distributors charge retailers. Assuming...

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

What is wrong with getting a babysitter if the kids aren't old enough to play or entertain themselves? It is telling that the majority of this thread is about how single or childless gamers should accommodate couples with children and not about how parents who want to game should accommodate...

Forked Thread: Its the terminology that kills me...

My biggest fear with any new edition is that it will ruin the excitement of someone telling me about their character. On a serious note, I think it is really helpful to have these terms as a way to understand what a class or monster is designed to do. It makes things more intuitive.

Is a popular non-D&D traditional fantasy RPG possible?

For designers, thinking of Magic the Gathering and WoW through an RPG lens might be a good practice. Maybe expand it to Settlers of Catan, Muchkin, Ticket to Ride, Halo etc. They're all games that are about getting people to together and having fun. Someone drawing on ideas from those games...

Is a popular non-D&D traditional fantasy RPG possible?

I think the time is always right for a quality product of any genre. On the flip side, I'm not sure there is ever a good time to release a mediocre or poor product. As far as being able to compete with D&D, I think that RPG publishers have D&D players as their target market, they will always...

In contrast to the GSL, Ryan Dancey on OGL/D20 in WotC archives

Is an Open Game system possible without an OGL? I thought the OGL was more about the ability to use the D20 brand for marketing and to use elements of the D&D setting? It seems like a community could have an iterative game system design without access to Drizzt, Melf's Acid Arrow, or Beholders.

My Experience of 4e Marketing Failing

I think you are overestimating the power of WotC's marketing dept. if you expect them to get a Border's employee to know D&D specific products anything. It'd be nice to imagine a world where all minimum wage earners put out more than minimum effort, but I don't think it is realistic. I don't...
