To ALL ENWorlders: Did you play 1E AD&D?

I checked "yes." I would have checked "Yes, about 4 days ago" if that had been an option.

    Have you seen these dice?

My guess is that those probably came out of a board game. If Kevin doesn't know what they are, you should try asking on some board gamer sites.

ARGH!!! Why Can't I Login to D&D Insider???

I can log into DDI and Gleemax with no problems, even though WOTC might not want me to. So they're mostly messing with people who want to be there. Sounds about right.

Info on "Inn Fighting," the (in-game) dice game?

An Inn-Fighting dealer promo die sold for $40.95 on ebay yesterday. That make me wonder: Does WOTC see Inn-Fighting as an expandable game that they can keep adding dice to, or is the promotional die just a one-time thing? Three Dragon Ante didn't have special promos, did it?

    Gleemax Cheesewax

I've been a big critic of the Gleemax Alpha (so vocal that their community rep told me not to use the site), but I have to say: The rollout of D&D Insider has been handled fairly well. They haven't missed any announced deadlines yet, what they've debuted actually works, and it doesn't look like...

    Gleemax Alpha is Live

What control panel? I only see a "Control Panel" on my profile page, and most of the time when I choose "Manage Favorites," I get the "Unexpected Error" page. (It once worked well enough to see that Solice is a mandatory favorite.)

    Gleemax Alpha is Live

Damn, you're right. I thought there was a way to "favorite" people (since my account includes "Solice" as a mandatory favorite), but there's no button to favorite real people. Gleemax is actually less functional than I thought when I looked at it yesterday. So really, the only features...

A new name for Late 1E

As soon as a few people agree on the term, a few more people will start arguing about where the line is between 'early' and 'late.' Threads like this bring to mind an old quote about foolish consistency and hobgoblins. There are too many gamers overly-concerned with putting the entire history...

    Gygaxian Monsters

Gary, I have a question about how playing with miniatures did (or didn't) affect the choice of monsters in the early D&D games. We all know by now that you found the rust monster in a bag of toy dinosaurs. I'm wondering, were you using the toy dinosaurs in your game? It that why there are so...

Info on "Inn Fighting," the (in-game) dice game?

WOTC's August 2007 preview and September 2007 preview have pictures of some of the game cards, including the "Game Summary" card. That should provide a little insight. Despite the early advertising, this doesn't look like a game that characters play. It sounds more like a dice (and card) game...

    Gygaxian Monsters

Almost nobody in the United States had seen "Doctor Who" when the sahuagin were first published in 1975. The show was one for a year here in 1972, then disappeared until 1978. Also, Steve Marsh has gone on record as blaming a Justice League cartoon for inspiring the monster. (By the way...

Anyone got D&D Game day 2007 info?

http://www.dndgameday.com/ Right now, it redirects to a page of retailer information (which confirms everything Glyfair wrote), but I assume it's the URL you should be be watching for updates.

What actually occured between TSR and Role Aids?

I talked to some TSR staffers about this case back when it was still in the courts. Two things they said that I've never been able to verify: 1) TSR's original case against Mayfair was complicated because old management had OKed Mayfair producing D&D-compatible stuff, much as it had OKed...

D&D 4E FR 4E SPOILER - Grand Histoy of the Realms info

Are we sure of that? Because I was wondering if this End of the World Again stuff will be an excuse to turn the Realms into one of those "points of light in the darkness" settings WOTC keeps going on and on about. Laws of Magic change, wizards go nuts, civilizations collapse, etc, etc, and...

    D&D 1E AD&D 1e Alternate Classes

Here's a little-known one: Gygax actually published one AD&D character class after leaving TSR -- the Hunter. It's a fighter subclass that specializes in fighting animals and monsters instead of people and humanoids -- basically a hunter-gatherer character class. (Some of its special abilities...

    Dungeon Dice

Yep, those are the Chessex dice. (Well, those "determine characteristics quickly" dice might be leftover Armory dice). A Chessex rep said in another thread that they normally only sell them at conventions. (They've also said that keeping an up-to-date website is too difficult for them.)

    Playtesting?

I often wonder to myself "Do WOTC staffers ever try playing this game with 12-year olds?" (I also wonder if they ever play with anybody who isn't a WOTC employee, but that's a separate rant.) I remember when a 10-year could teach himself D&D, but that doesn't seem to be a concern anymore. WOTC...

[OGL Questions] Is Dungeons and Dragons a game?

I'd suggest he skip straight to the "abandon your project" part, because frankly, it doesn't sound that interesting.

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Some friendly advice for KenzerCo: You know what's confusing about this whole thing? The press release starts with the words "It is with regret that we announce," while KenzerCo's followups are say they don't really regret it. People are interpreting this as bad news because the press release...
