Ranger "Pets" which can attack as you do: PHB1 Style Fix

That has its merits. It certainly might be worthwhile to require a Minor to command your pet to move. Still, I'm wary of anything that encourages people to stand still. Also, when you choose to move, your pet can't attack, which is unfortunate from a flavor point of view. Of course, the fact...

Solos, Status Effects, and a House Rule

I like this. It seems to accomplish much of what Elric's house rule does, but IMO, it's simpler. Less to remember. Though I would apply it to any condition. I'm perfectly okay with a solo being harder to knock prone, for example.

Ranger "Pets" which can attack as you do: PHB1 Style Fix

First off, this is to allow Animal Companions who can attack every turn the Ranger does, as if they were a creature. The major advantage here is an increase in minion killing capability, so that's why some Ranger perks were removed, and some other advantages that companions could reasonably...

Removal of the limit on Daily Magic Item power uses

Absolutely. The Cha/Int mod. rule could've been used to good effect in any edition where Cha. was a dump stat, but not in 4E. I do like the flavor, though, especially if items are magical due to bound spirits.

How to have animal companions fight on "without direction"?

Another idea might be to have Hunter's Quarry damage done by the pet. If you hit, do your Hunter's Quarry damage to a target adjacent to your pet. Upside: minion killing potential is increased. Downside: re-positioning both yourself and your pet is tougher. A weird quirk is targeting a low...

How to have animal companions fight on "without direction"?

The weak At Will is the easiest, but isn't very fun. The Move Action idea doesn't strike me as fun, it discourages movement, and depending on the conditions of the fight: sometimes not moving is perfectly fine, so thus it could be imbalanced. Another idea is to sort of re-theme the Fighter as...

    D&D 4E How I Fixed 4e

Knew I should clarify, but yes. However, I was thinking that death saves reset at an extended rest, and not just any rest. However, since I use a two fight day, hopefully things won't get too ridiculous, and I don't think it'll cause a death spiral, but feel free to chime in if people think...

    D&D 4E How I Fixed 4e

Action Point idea is great. For wounds, I'm considering: if a PC fails a death save, etc. (basically works like Rel's version), then one of the following occurs: a) -2 to all defenses, b) -2 to hit, or c) -2 to speed. Roll 1d3 to determine the effect. Maybe I'll make some marker (circular...

Removal of the limit on Daily Magic Item power uses

I like it, BobTheNob, especially since I run two fight days typically, I wasn't sure how I should deal with magic items and additional uses.

    Racial Scores Fix

Well, I took a brief look at the PHB1 and PHB2, I guess you're talking about Adventurer's Vault. To be blunt: if that was how WotC balanced Goliath Greatweapon Prowess, that's dumb. So in order to balance the PHB1 and PHB2 feats, I need Adventurer's Vault? Yeesh. Correct me if I'm wrong...

    Action, Ancient, and Monstrous races.

I think your numbers are a bit misleading. If we're comparing straight up damage, why do the Eladrin and Halfling use Icy Terrain instead of Burning Hands, when you define Burning Hands as hitting more targets and does more damage in general? This is a good point: I'm not sure about the...

    Shields and Wands

Personally, when it comes to weapons and implements, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to let the PC use the better bonus of the two. And by that I mean: screw the wand, point your sword at the enemy and zap them with arcane energy. It's pointy like a wand, right? Good enough. If you really...

    Action, Ancient, and Monstrous races.

I also think that the Monstrous Races might be a bit too good, though the extra encounter power ability is hard to quantify, since sometimes it's just an extra 1W damage, and sometimes it's battle-swinging. I think it depends on what level range you're looking at. +1 hit and +1 damage is big...

    Racial Scores Fix

I'd say the bonus skill is offset by racial skill bonuses. This swings both ways, if you're getting an extra +2 (or two) to skills you value highly, then I'd say it's better. After all, Skill Focus for a +3 is a feat. If they're not valuable/trained skills, then you'd prefer that bonus skill...

    Racial Scores Fix

I like this idea, though I actually screwed up a moment ago. It changes 16/16/12/12/10/8 (+2 to 2) to 16/16/12/10/10/8, yielding a 14 if you really want it for your third stat. Also, in RAW, you can go 20/16 if you have +2 to both your desired stats, now you can only go 20/15. So I'm not sure...

    Racial Scores Fix

I am seriously considering the same thing, though I do think some racials are balanced around the current stat bumps. For example: Dwarven and Eladrin Weapon Training seem to exist to make up for the fact that neither class gets a Strength bump, and to allow them to play Fighter types more...

    How to foil single-target focus?

Some good ideas in this thread, such as: When bloodied, the target gains insubstantial and weakened. Sweet. Nice flavor for the ability, too.

improving Second Wind (Forked Thread: House Rule: Second Effort)

Powers that stun (or daze, etc.), or heal your allies who DO need the healing (whether it costs a surge or not), may also be worth translating your surges into encounter powers. Maybe you're right, but I'd prefer to default towards "not used enough" than "used too often." I also really like...

improving Second Wind (Forked Thread: House Rule: Second Effort)

How about, when a player Second Winds, they may choose to spend an additional healing surge (for a total of 2) to regain an encounter power? Since, IMO, Second Wind for HP and an Encounter power means that Second Wind becomes a no-brainer the vast majority of the time. WotC said that many...

Un-solo-ing Dragons (My Players Stay Out, please!)

Is that just for solos? I was considering doing -25% HP, +level in bonus damage per hit. Seems to be a fairly equal trade in HP and damage, assuming 50% to hit and a 10 round fight for the few dragons I looked at. Though maybe it wouldn't work for other monsters, since dragons get the bonus...
