    Shaman questions

It IS affected by AoE attacks? That kinda really really sucks as then, once again, you have the double damage from aoe's.

Mearls talks about how he hates resistances

You could mix up how resistances work a bit by making it so enemies ignore under X amount of damage from appropriate source, but take full damage if it's over X. That way, a wizard or whatever can try to overpower the resist, which comes up somewhat often with elemental magic in stories.

    Shaman questions

The healing boon doesn't say target with a healing power, it says use one. So I'd think it works when you target someone else with the healing power and also use it on them. The immunity to close and area attack is so enemies have to specifically waist an attack to get rid of your spirit...

    PHB2 Excerpts - Backgrounds

That comes from the idea that loosing a character you are attached to is bad. So generally, how much someone will invest into actually caring about a character tracks with how unlikely they are to randomly drop dead forever. For many people, me included, backstories are a sign of caring about...

    Shaman questions

1: I think so. 2: Yes it does, helpful, no? 3: You are using a healing power on them, so it looks like it.

Starlock: AC too low to be playable?

There a better target still if they only have cover and concealment then. Not every party can keep all foes marked eternally. Ranged aoe's also tend to ignore both of those if placed properly. And sometimes to often the terrain favors your foes, outdoors particularly, where the front line CAN'T...

    Your money or your life?

My houserule regarding the spot check on the moon is that that goddes of the moon casts faerie fire on said moon each night, then the god of the sun dispells it each morning. YMMV though.

    Battle Royal Help

Find a group with 2 tac warlords with lead the attack as their daily. Preferably human ones with action surge. Then they can pop their starting action point and give your side a large bonus to hit forever. Each can do that to seperate people. Then have the rest of the party be high damages...

Why don't monsters have power sources?

They have origins that generally map to power sources, shadowfell=shadow, immortal=divine and the like. Generally, i'm guessing that it wasn't actually important usually, as a good many monsters have power source 'inherent' in that their power is from themselfs. And people would feel a bit odd...

Starlock: AC too low to be playable?

The problem is that enemies have bows occasionally. No int or dex means you ref will be low as well, which most aoe's are. If the gm is having every monster ignore the striker in the back forever, then no, you don't need any defense ever, but in the event that the enemies want to eat the squishy...

    Your money or your life?

Or perhaps they are trying to win? Few people play soley to lose. If a given personality is shoestringed into always failing, generaly speaking, people will either complain or adapt. The three ways to adapt to this is to change your character's personality midgame, roll up a new character with...

    Your money or your life?

Yes, however, is that outside of the reach for the party, (the 50k). Game over penalties are different from setbacks unless the players make switching characters a setback. Which is usually a bad thing from a roleplaying standpoint.

    Playtest: Primal Power

THIS All these opportunity attack feats and powers would be much cooler if my gms even once provoked an opportunity attack in a fight without merely overlooking the placement on the map. Adding more reason for them to never do it is sometimes just pointless.

    Playtest: Primal Power

I like it. Well, cept the lv 29 wolf summon that has that instinctive action to attack vs will in burst 2 and daze. Has a nasty tendency of frying your party like that. But with the tribal feats? The way I look at it is thusly: "Oh, +1 to oa's attack and damage? Nice, plus I'm a shaman and it...

    Confused about holy symbols

It exists like that so sword and shield paladins can use implement attacks (instead of having say, their weapon or shield be an implement.) Clerics get the ability for free, as it were. I hope totems are the same way.

    Rules Lawyers Are Funny.

Sigh, lazy rules lawyer. He should have known that the game has 2 sets of rules and memorized both the enemy's rules and his own.

tabletop rpgs-are they really games? or rather a "fun" interactive experience

IMO, the thing that defines if something is a game is, "Can you lose?" In my experience, anything you can actually lose people accept as a game. If the heroes in your rpg have a literary unspoken plot guarantee of success, many will say it's not a game then. So it mostly just depends on the...

    PC Sacrifice

Final death via sacrifice is best left to an opt-in situation, really. Thusly, if nobody is going to want in, you've best plan a good olde 'third option' for solving the problem, else there will be more problems. And, why must it be one of the pc's who die, in this situation?

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

I play online with a group of 5 people, including a gm. Our combats take around 2 hours, and this is with most of the group not bothering to roleplay any actions during the combat unless someone just died. The tactical nature of the combats make it so that you have to plan your action on your...
