do you play any non-d20 games? If so, what?

I play a very old game called Flashing Blades. It is a swashbuckler game, that is amazing, with great background info included. I love it. The game has some support material, and it is all available at drivthrurpg. I mostly play D20 stuff, but I will never completely give up on this game...

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I'm nervous. I loved the books, and I also loved the BBC television series. To me there wasn't a void that needed to be filled by another movie version. But I will say that some of the casting seems to be on. I will definitely go and see it, I just hope I'm not terribly disappointed and that...

What FREE D&D software do you use?

I used autorealm before to create large overland maps. I like the program a lot. So I could easily use Dungeon Crafter for the dungeon maps? I know autorealm has options for dungeon mapping as well, but I've never used them. Are there any other free dungeon mapping programs available that I...

    Online Games

Because of a similar post to this some folks talked about Fantasy Grounds. I got it, and found a group from these boards. It is a great experience. I highly recommend it.

    Wheel of Time

I had a similar experience to many here. I liked the series a lot at the beginning, and by the end of book 7 it just made me angry that I was reading it. Book 8 was the final blow for me. One of the problems I have with it is that I don't like Ran that much. He's the main character, but I...

    Getting Back Into Gaming

If you want something to give NPC's a story and motivation easier try the hero builders handbook, and Kingdoms of Kalamar has a similar one for villains. I haven't seen the villain's one yet, but the other one is cool for random generating some back story if you don't want to create them all...

What Are You Reading? (March 2005)

I'm reading the One Kingdom of the Swan War series. I hadn't heard much about it, don't see it discussed much, but it was what was available while I was out of the country. I'm actually enjoying it. It isn't the best of the best, but it is better than a ton of the fantasy novels that are out...

    Settings you want to like

I think the thing that makes it stand out is the political depth, the way that religions interract with politics, and depth that the history ties in with all of the above. It is a human dominated world, with other races having a slightly different niche than in other D&D settings. I think...

Starting above 1st level - player reaction?

The longest running campaign I ever played in used to start everyone off at 1st level after deaths, new characters etc. Then at one point our DM announced that we weren't 1st level players anymore. Then everyone from that moment started their characters off at 3rd or 4th level. I can't...

Xbox versus PS2 for the discerning adult

Thanks for the info. I just bought the X-Box, dance pad, and DDR Ultramix2 this weekend. I also rented Prince Of Persia from the store. I'm having fun so far. Thanks.

    Famous people who play D&D.

Had he lived longer I'm sure that Mark Bolan(aka T. Rex) would have played. Most people know He was a huge Lord of the Ring fan, and initially wouldn't have any references in his songs of anything that was even close to the 20th century. His original bass player also took the name Took...

    Clockwork Orange

Definitely disturbing, and unsettling, but I loved this movie. I have watched it many times, and would do so again. I read the book after I had already seen the movie, and like most books that are made into a movie, the book is easily superior. The movie is a classic though. I loved it.

A stick in the mud, a dinosaur?

I would say Greyhawk is tolkienesque just bigger. It isn't going to be the exact same obviously, but I wouldn't say it was opposed either. Greyhawk may have a few more wizards, but not significantly more necessarily. In Greyhawk settings the party may have one sorc. or wiz, may fight one evil...

A stick in the mud, a dinosaur?

I've been wondering if I am a stick in the mud or a dinosaur for preferring more traditional Tolkienesque/Greyhawk type settings. I don't know why, but I have a really hard time getting into settings like Eberron, or even Iron Kingdoms with it's steam power. Things like floating cities all...

Xbox versus PS2 for the discerning adult

Where Japanese vs. U.S. RPG's it sounds like the argument comes down mostly to taste. I think that excellent points were made about Morrowind allowing total choice and freedom, but few memorable characters that play any kind of memorable part in the story. And also about Balder's gate line of...

Pen and Paper D&D over the PC?

I played with Sandman from these very boards for my first FG session ever. The prgram was great, and I was especially impressed with seeing the map uncovered. There was the first game of campaign/frist FG session kinks that we had to work out at the start. It wasn't overly taxing, or too out...

    Mercenary campaign

Sounds like an interesting campaign. Others have had great ideas about using their wages to buy loot. Another similar way with slight variation would be to allow characters to earn status for performing well during the campaign. The commander would give each player a certain amount of points...

Pen and Paper D&D over the PC?

I am so phsyched after checking out FG. I've already called one former DM, and e-mailed another to make sure they know about this. It would be cool to get a group together from here for an ongoing campaign if we had a noble DM. If not I will find a FG D&D group somehow. It's not a matter...

Pen and Paper D&D over the PC?

I am checking out FG now. I am dying for a game. I would be willing to form part of a party that adventured Sat. Mornings for D&D. I moved away from my last D&D group, and I haven't played in a while. I have a definite need for it. Let me know if anyone has room for more.

Xbox versus PS2 for the discerning adult

I'm looking to buy a console system too. My reasons are odd. I am buying it primarily to get Dance Dance revolution so I can get in shape(hopefully in a fun way.) Both systems currently have that title available. I will most likely get an x-box, but I don't know for sure. I will enjoy the...
