Less is More? Less books per setting equal more enjoyment?

This is my position. I don't care very much for FR and Eberron, so the news that WotC will be providing some support to other settings is great.

    Pure Glow decimates minions?

It's not just auto damage effects: so many classes and paragon paths offer area effect attacks that can wipe them off the map. As a DM I've found that melee minions aren't usually worth the effort of assembling on the battlemat once the party exceeded 6-7th level. As a player of a wizard, I'm...

    I have Adventure Vault 2

So, have any of the items struck you as particularly cool, stylish, powerful or broken yet?

    I have Adventure Vault 2

Thank God. I was dreading new double weapons. Double fullblade? Double nunchucks? Double bow?

Absolutely vital core races in D&D

Human, Eladrin and Dwarf. Where "Eladrin" means the "fighter/magic user" elf which we saw in BD&D. The wood elf is a later optional race. For me, the halfling isn't needed. I don't see Hobbits as an adventurer race, and the later attempts to give halflings a different personality just don't...

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

Having just run a particular fight in The Temple Between module in the Scales of War AP, I'll add: Avoid three-way battles with 16 monsters, none of whom are minions. Running a battle with yourself just slows things down while turning the players into an audience for more of each turn. Avoid...

(Sub) Design & Development - Psionics

That's a great idea! I think it might be best to split the powers into, say, a "Light" precog build and a "Dark" TK one...

(Sub) Design & Development - Psionics

The obvious way to do souldknife would be to make it an implement power. And to make the class implement a wand. Soul Knives would be projected from the end of the wand, which would then be like the hilt of a sword. And they'd also make a sort of buzzing-whooshing sound when swung around.

    Epic Woes

The Lord of Fate ED in Arcane power has a level 21 power called Turnabout that I think might cause a lot of problems: when you roll initiative, designate one creature you can see as the target of turnabout. Until the end of the encounter, any condition it imposes as a result of an attack power...

OGL:Someone releases as OGC a most revolutionary & awesome game design. You, Wotc...

I am WotC? If the Most Revolutionary & Awesome Game Design is not a pen-and-paper RPG but some other product that does not compete with mine, then I wish its developers good fortune. If the MR&AGD is a pen and paper RPG, then what I do depends on the situation the MR&AGD is in. i) If the...

    Utility Recharge Bias

I chose "None of them in general." Sure, an encounter can be used more often than a daily, but an awesome daily is better than a weak encounter. Awesomeness wins!

When you're the only one who likes what you like

Not with RPGs. I did with some boardgames my friends liked, but I eventually got so annoyed I basically stopped playing boardgames with them (we still play RPGs together.) There's a saying on rpgnet I've come to agree with "No gaming is better than bad gaming."

When you're the only one who likes what you like

Is playing 3.5/Pathfinder so bad? One advantage these games do have is the different mechanics for classes means you should be able to find one you enjoy. Of course, if the others are saying "You get to DM a game you don't like" that's another matter. Invite one of them to DM.

Dragon 376 - Creature Incarnations: Fell Taints

I was actually replying directly to Rechan's post, who I thought would - and who did - understand these acronyms. I should have put in a quote, since Shroomy swooped in before I finished my post. However, I take your point. In future, I will not employ initialisms like AC or HP when I can write...

Dragon 376 - Creature Incarnations: Fell Taints

They all attack NADS rather than AC, which will hurt the heavy armour types a lot. The other thing is that they're the first monster I've seen(*) that is actually rewarded for CdGing a PC. (*) Though I certainly could have missed others, and I haven't got MM2 yet..

I’m Thinking of Giving 4e Another Shot

Yeah, but did you just keep trying with the same girl forever? To continue the metaphor, it's like the OP has gone on four dates with 4e, where he discovered he didn't like her personality, her opinions, her appearance and her tastes. Now he's going to try again. I'm suggesting he should go on a...

I’m Thinking of Giving 4e Another Shot

I do play, and like, 4e. But Samuel Leming didn't enjoy it the four times he tried, and a fifth attempt seems quixotic. Why not play the C&C and Pathfinder Samuel mentions in his signature, or the many other old school games that fit his playstyle.?

I’m Thinking of Giving 4e Another Shot

Why? You've tried to play it three times and to DM it once and you obviously still have big problems with its basic rules philosophy. Why waste your time?

One class parties - which would work?

I think the all Shaman party would make for interesting fights. Over here, we have a vicious melee of monsters and spirit companions; over there, a group of shamans remote controlling their companions while staying out of range.

Dragon Editorial: Players 1, DMs 1

I've been thinking the same about the monster and setting articles in Dragon for a while now; but if they move them to Dungeon, there wouldn't be much in some Dragon issues we've seen to date.
