    DM versus Players

But if there are different ways of dealing with that situation (or it is a completely optional one) and the player chooses the one where he needs that 12, in what amount is that the DM's responsibility? If you put a knife on a table and some dude stabs himself to death with it, I don't see how...

D&D and Computer Games, through the ages

I came to D&D through console videogames, specially the Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy and Sword of Mana series, which I played in my SuperNES for hours. When I found out there was a way to play something similar to that (and to the HeroQuest boardgame) with my friends, I was instantly sold.

All editions of D&D: What do you like?

Natural 20's (and anything that has to do with rolling lots of odd-shaped multicolored dice). The weird, WTF creatures: gorilla cockroaches, giant floating eyes, brain-eating humanoid octopuses, carnivorous jellies... What's not to like? The iconic character of the whole: dungeons, clerics...

So why are you at ENWorld?

I'm here because it's a good site about D&D without being exclusively about one or another edition. Here we have people whose D&D of choose is 3.x, 4e, OD&D or even something totally different as Savage Worlds or RuneQuest. I tend to lurk a lot and, when I post, I tend to annoy people, but it's...

arguing with my DM: The Leadership feat(and a wizard)

Is the DM right? Yes. It's his game. If you want the rules decisions to be different, run your own game. Then you'll be right.

Orcus of Necromancer Games says "You were right, I was wrong"

Ah, but then you risk the opposite scenario, which IIRC was one of the big complains about 3.x: When the whole adventure is solved by a sole character's power/ability/spell/trait. A published module should always take into account the most common abilities available to the PCs, and that would...

arguing with my DM: The Leadership feat(and a wizard)

IMC there are some feats (and Leadership is one of them) which players have to justify with roleplaying. I usually tell them when one or another feat is available to them when they gain a level. For example, if any of them would have made friends with a NPC, I'd tell them: "You can take...

Which one do you prefer your character suffer? Death vs Rust Monster vs Level Drain

Rust monster any day. It's the only option that doesn't involve part of my soul being sucked out by an undead abomination or having my guts spilled all over the floor of some random cave. I've known about greedy people, but geez... :p

Using older adventures with 4E, Pathfinder, Trailblazer, etc. – how do you do it?

I'm running the Legacy of Fire AP using Pathfinder RPG and I do it straight BTB. I use the grapple bonus as the basis for CMB, and add 1-2 hp per HD to critters, but that's it. If I had to do more than that, frankly, I'd use plain 3.5.

    Darksun Teasers

Another thing I'm curious about: what did you people think about the 3.5 version of Dark Sun which was published in Dragon and Dungeon (Paizo era)?

    Darksun Teasers

I find it kind of funny that, when 4e came out and there were a lot of rumors about which would be the 2010 setting, pretty much everyone agreed on Dark Sun, because it was thought "the definite 4e setting". Have things changed so much in this years that the "ideal" setting for 4e is now...

How large should you're average dungeon be?

The ideal size for me would be 8-12 rooms, with 4-8 combats. About a third of the room count should consist of roleplaying encounters, traps, treasure, story elements or just empty rooms. That'd be for an adventure that was essentially a dungeon (as in PF20's "The House of the Beast"). For an...

On an unrelated note, is Disgaea any good? I'm almost finishing Chrono Trigger and it's time to look for another NDS RPG goodness...

Really, how important is the system/edition?

I can see myself agreeing with that. After all, It's a matter of reducing the variables: once you have the ideal group, you just have to find the ideal game! :D

    Understanding Alignment

The way I see is, alignment doesn't tell you what you have to do, but what is your starting point of view of a given situation. I like alignments because they give the lazy players a decent guide for roleplaying their characters, while giving the more dedicated ones a starting point and, in the...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Is it evidence that new editions don't need to be that different?

Well, If I went that way, I'd worry about why did I pay for a crippled subscription, as I'm not a Windows user :(

Really, how important is the system/edition?

System doesn't matter when I'm playing: I'll play whatever the guy who's DM'ing wants to run. However, it is vital when I'm the DM: I won't run a game I don't like (at least, once I know I don't like it: test games don't count :P). As here in ENWorld we're mostly DMs, I think it's logical that...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Is it evidence that new editions don't need to be that different?

I prefer self-contained rules, yes. I also know there are people who prefer otherwise, and that's why I said "another way to look at it" and not "the right way to look at it" ;) As I have already stated, my ideal situation is one book with all the rules (which is the way my favorite games work...
