Would you be interested in a 3e / 4e hybrid (evolution)?

Yeah, sorry, I play MMOs, so I often use its terminology without realizing those I am communicating with may not understand them. As others have pointed out, it is just when the best, and often the only, attack to take is just "I attack." I did not even KNOW people preferred those mechanics...

Would you be interested in a 3e / 4e hybrid (evolution)?

What do those people prefer from previous editions? What about those preferences that can't be handled via Unearthed Arcana type rules? I specifically added what I prefer from previous editions (because I know what I prefer; I don't know what others prefer), but I could have easily added other...

D&D 5E Neverwinter is the next setting! (Did we know this?)

The Neverwinter game is being made by Cryptic. I do not think it will end up as vaporware. Being rushed to release with bugs and lacking features, sure, but vaporware, no. (See Champions-Online, Star Trek Online)

D&D 5E Neverwinter is the next setting! (Did we know this?)

Most 4e "setting" books have three basic sections (even if they are not delineated as such): a part with options for any game/any setting (races, classes, and such), a part relevant for the setting (In the case of Neverwinter, this would be about the city and region), and a part tying the...

Would you be interested in a 3e / 4e hybrid (evolution)?

I think they should just have two separate, but compatible, lines and call them, say, Advanced 4e and Essentials 4e. Advanced 4e would include the greater options that previous editions had (including a variety of Unearthed Arcana style houserule options), while Essentials 4e would be the...

    Difference in size...

The problem with that is monsters are more likely to be bigger than the PCs than the other way around, especially if you have small PCs and don't have large PCs in the group. (Except for lower levels, the vast majority of monsters PCs usually face are at least medium in size, often large or larger.

D&D 4E [4E Players, mainly] Ever thought of defecting to Pathfinder?

There are some things I prefer about 3rd Ed than 4th Ed (freedom of character building, more daring options, and, as I've posted before, the greater freedom in racial choices, including large-sized races) and some things I prefer 4th Ed over 3rd Ed (the lack of just "I attack," especially for...

spearing a ship until it sinks

I'd also say that different objects of the same type can be handled much differently. The PC's ship, a big-name NPC's ship, or a flagship of a boss-type enemy would be heartier than a ship of regular no-names monster and/or NPCs. Say, the PCs are in a big naval battle. You could have their...

    D&D 4E 4e Gestalt

*facepalms self* I didn't realize that your "choice" levels were not of levels that you actually receive powers of that type. It shows that I need to look at things a tad bit more closely in the future (no promises though!).

    D&D 4E 4e Gestalt

Since you get 1 "Bonus" Encounter Power and 1 "Bonus" Daily Power, how about making those "floaters," they float upwards as you level, with the caveat that you can have, at most, 1 Encounter/Daily power of any level from each class? (For example, a level 5 Fighter/Rogue could have a 1st level...

spearing a ship until it sinks

Seems to me, it should be Strength (or Athletics) checks with bonus (axes, bludgeoning weapons) or penalties (piercing, non-axe slashing weapons) based on tools used, instead of Basic Melee attacks (or even melee powers). However, barbarian hurling a Flaming Maul with the Arcing Throw power at...

    Fortune Cards Threads [Merged]

You could house-rule it for your campaign to have a Master Deck, built by the DM, instead of individual decks for each player.

    D&D 4E 4E solo advice

Buff up the PC, using some sort of gestahlt set-up (either one of those suggested here or elsewhere on the 'net, or start with a hybrid set-up and give the PC more of the powers from each) or just buff them up within their own class. Then, add a sidekick that complements the PC (using a normal...

    New Playable Races?

In 3.5, anything between 8' and 16' tall also take up 2x2 square, and therefore, 10'x10' area. Since a 2' tall race still takes up a 5'x5' space, I don't see the weirdness you seem to. As for the architecture issue, why would a world that had a sizable (no pun intended) population of 10' or...

    New Playable Races?

4th Ed is one of the only places where you can have medium without it being an option in the middle. "No, you can't have a large drink (or some other thing), only small and medium." (Actually, I remember the same type of joke, only in reverse, on Animaniacs) Waiting until the campaign is...

D&D is actually kind of unique

Isn't the fact that you can apply D&D to such a wide variety of worlds, from Star Wars (D20 Star Wars) to Dark Sun, post-apocalyptic Earth (Gamma World, D20 Modern) to elves-in-space (Spelljammer), and medieval settings of all types ("traditional," Oriental Adventures, Al-Qadim, Maztica...

    "Fixed duration" to "save ends"

How about splitting the difference on the effects? Make your turn this: Move Action (or skip Move action) "Until next turn" effects on you that were on you at the beginning of your turn end Standard Action or Standard Action (or skip standard action) "Until next turn" effects on you that...

    Idea for Large Races

Good points. However, the reason behind the Close Burst 1 effect is for melee AE effects. If you are spinning around with your weapon, you'd still strike at all your adjacent targets. Yes, you have 4 more potential targets for a Close Burst 1, but you are also a target for 4 more potential...

    a substitute for dice

You could modify it a bit to maintain the pseudo-RNG aspect. Ask each of your players at the beginning of each session to come up with a list of random numbers, each player given a different, and relatively prime (or just prime), number of numbers to come up with (9, 11, 16, and 25 would work...
