    Ranma & gender issues

Perhaps I'm evil, but my current campaign has a body-swap situation going on now. It seemed to have made sense at the time... The situation - One character, a female, runs into some fairies. She offends one of them, so he successfully wipes her memory and implants the idea that they are...

    What to do about Specialists?

I would prefer a single, 20-level, wizard class, with narrow specialization required from the beginning. As someone advances in the class, they pick up related abilities, or broader spell access. I really dislike the flavor of the PHB wizards. To me, magic as a field of study is so vast that...

    Caracassonne vs. Settlers of Catan?

As for Settlers, once I got a little deeper into the strategy, the random factors make it feel like I'm competing against the board itself - how do I force out resources more consistantly, and do it better than the other players. Also check out the following...

Axis and Allies - new vs old?

You may be talking about the Attack! game. I got a chance to play on the big floor map. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/6752 I don't know how Attack compares to the new A&A rules, but I do prefer it to the older A&A. Personally, I really like it that the teams aren't predetermined.

Ever kill a familiar? I did.

I thought I emphasized that the walled off area was where the sorcerers were holed up, and was the most dangerous place of the town. There were no animals of any kind near there. Well, I did feel pretty bad about how the player reacted. The raven never went on another mission, even though I...

Ever kill a familiar? I did.

I've only come close... The party is investigating the advances of the orcish army. They know that the orcs have used goblin sorcerers in the past. They infiltrate a town conqured by the orcs. In the center of town, they find an area surrounded by a palisade wall. The rogue hangs around...

    The Origins thread

My bag had a copy of "Tales of Freeport." My girlfirend's bag had "Mindshadows," which I hope she'll eventually surrender to me. She doesn't play RPGs, but is going to compete in the Settlers of Catan world qualifier tournament. She has a knack of always winning when we play, including...

    ENWorld, Please give some input!

OK. I DM most of the time, but decided to take a break recently, and now I'm in three (!) campaigns. Being a teacher on summer break helps... Group A: 1st level - Gnome Warmage with a club and blast 'em spells (my character) Human Cleric with a heavy mace Human Rogue with spiked...

    Expanded Psionics Handbook Play Use?

I just started playing in an FR campaign, and was allowed to build a character from the XPH. I really like the idea of a Soulknife. However, when actually putting the numbers on the page, I just couldn't get enthusiastic about it. I agree with resistor, the class is a one trick pony - and...

    Phantom Fungus

I've actually used it. The party found an abandoned dwarven mine complex. One of the levels was the dwarves' farming area. I can recall trying to figure out a way to make the area more interesting, then I stumbled upon the Phantom Fungus - mutant food! In contrast to their listed...

    Open Worlds vs. Closed Worlds

I kind of consider my game's universe as a poor man's planescape. I have a finite number of alternate material planes - there are four of them, all of my own making. There are also two transitive planes. The typical outer and elemental planes have been off limits to the players, and are...

    Psionics and You

I've used psionics in one iteration of my campaign world, using the 3.0 rules. I used it as an ancient form of magic, held secret from the current ruling social class. After previously playing members of that social class, the players were kind of enjoying the subversive take this time around...

Do you keep your Players in the Dark?

I make it a point to not tell my players that sort of info. That way, if I need to fudge a bit to keep things exciting, I can. I have one player who seems to keep track of the exact damage inflicted on each creatrue with great ease. He's constantly telling me how much damage a particular...

Book of All Spells from... Steve Jackson Games?

A search on Google shows that it is from Fast Forward, not Steve Jackson - http://www.fastforwardgames.com/fridayfaxes/ffff103103.pdf and http://fastforwardgames.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=337 unless SJ has another product with the EXACT same name. Has anybody taken a look at it, or any...

    What Skill is Math!?

I'd suggest that a mathematics check would simply be a Int check, but would benefit from synergy bonuses granted for 5+ ranks in Know (engineering) or Profession (trader) and similar stuff. For the mystical aspects, give the synergy bonus for high ranks in Know (arcana).

    Middle School Game Club

Yup, right here! I run a homebrew D&D campaign on Sunday's and have had a couple students participate (there are also a couple kids who are not my students). I've also just became involved in the "Strategy Club" at school. The kids asked one of their other teachers for an opportunity to...

    Fictional/Created Religions

In my campaign, I wanted a monotheistic religion as a basis, but wanted to stay away from real world stuff. I then added in seven orders into the mix, which are each headed up by a patron celestial, mostly serving the one diety. I then picked latin-ish names for them. ----- Diety: Auctoris...

    D&D Minitures from GenCon

Thanks for the info, folks. That clears up some things. So, I guess I was seeing the pointy bits of the other figures when I thought I saw a minotaur. Yeah, the Green Regent rules do say something to that effect. Not sure I like it too much, either. It's cool, but only if you have the...
