Encounter power buffs outside of combat

In this case it raises your saves, which generally happen at the end of your turn, but sure there is a benefit, but the point is it's not not (again) haste, where casting it before you kick in the door makes a big difference but with a stance if you have the suprise round anyway it's not...

Encounter power buffs outside of combat

We haven't seen any long term powers that buff stats. The "buffs" seem to be things like flight as opposed to say, haste. The only one that wasn't was a Fighter "Stance" which I assume is a minor to put up, so there's no huge benefit from arcing it up before hand as opposed to the first round of...

How many Tools do you Need?

You lose pages that could have been used on things which help you. Yep, although... This really isn't true though. Having extra detailed rules for something that don't come up that, especially if it works differently to other systems, or isn't laid out really, really well is actually really...

D&D 4E My First 4E Game: Disappointing. Yours? (UPDATED with player feedback)

The internet is like that. Or perhaps more accurately, secondary sources are like that.

How many encounters per full rest?

Are we voting on how the we think the game should work in a perfect world, or how it we expect it/have experianced it to work?

How many classes can use ranged weapons effectively?

You can play a sneaky thief with a bow with one feat (skill training theivery) you can play a sneaky thief with a crossbow who gets combat bonuses from being sneaky with one feat (weapon prof heavy crossbow) which may not even be necessary (since it may only give +1). My point is, you're...

D&D 4E My First 4E Game: Disappointing. Yours? (UPDATED with player feedback)

Yes. It only does 1d10. We did have a corrected version of the power on the Wizards site for a bit, but it seems to have been lost....

How Does "The Rules Aren't Physics" Fix Anything?

Well, yes, it's a cool idea for a setting, but it's obviously not something that was intended as a basic assumption for all 3.x settings.

How Does "The Rules Aren't Physics" Fix Anything?

A very good 3.x example is spawn propagation of certain incorporeal undead, (In fact this actually came up in a recent game) where a strict following of RAW allows a single Wraith to create a chain reaction and depopulate entire citys in minutes. "The Rules aren't the Physics of the World"...

Simulationism vs. Gamism Deathmatch: There can be only one!

It has half a loaf of stale bread, some cheese, 2 copper pieces, a small dried flower, a string around it's finger and a knife. It smells funny, but it's teeth are suprisingly good.

Huge Cover Images from CNET article

I really don't like those, and I was gonna do the whole "Do Not Want!!", then I remembered the one we have isn't really any better. *sigh* (Note, a large part of my problem is that they convey a specific style, one which base D&D pretty much isn't, making them inappropriate, as opposed to...

Huge Cover Images from CNET article

You know, the nose spike never really bothered me before, but now that I see the picture without it, yeah, that's much better.

    D&D 4E 4E: BBEG's Redemption?

And yet all of these are better than old Starwars, where Sith Lords get one-punched by Wookies. (I really felt for that DM)

Healing Surges innate Blessed band aids

Since they can already take 3 M16 rounds and be unindered, the ability to be unhindered for longer if they take a round or five minutes to take a breather or bandage their wounds isn't a big deal. "Realisitically" most serious wounds take at least several months to heal, so characters which...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

Yes, absolutely, most DMs I know would roll that, because the guards are the agents of the PCs, thus the PCs are interacting with the world through them, but like you said, in other circumstances, I look at the various stats and either figure out what would be most likely, or if it's close, most...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

To be fair, Chriss Sims does call the PCs "extraordinary heroes of great destiny" earlier in the thread, there may well be large differences between them, although all I've seen so far puts the PC class/NPC stats of 4e as merely an extention of 3.x PC class/NPC class.

D&D 4E Alignment, 4e, you, and your paladins.

I love how Free Tibet is winning :) I'm okay okay with d20 modern or Rolemaster or any type of alignment which is JUST a description of your character as opposed to 2e style alignment where it's actually part of the game mechanics, and you get penalized for not following what the DM thinks your...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

I wasn't refering to my point of view. I was refering to the designers, alot of the changes are coming from "what cause slowdown at my* table" and by "my" I mean "Mike Mearls'" or "David Noonan's". I don't personally care about halfing height, I don't take very long to calculate 1-2-1, I quite...
