    OOTS 594 is up

He's had that option before. He didn't let the bad guy die then. He's a Good hero. And besides. Trials are dramatic and advance the plot. And it's Elan.

Hadron Goblin Supercollider I found this thread, "Hadron Goblin Supercollider", interesting and have nominated it accordingly for Topic Of The Week 38, September, 2008.

    Anyone using Onenote?

I love OneNote. Used it a ton for school, but I've also used it a lot for D&D. I've found it's great for both plotting out a campaign and working on campaign setting ideas. At last, I can notebooks full of abandoned ideas... that are digital! It's a dream come true ;)

    Now Is This A Promise?

Until they ask me for money, they can say whatever they like. When they say 'it's ready, and this is what it has' or 'give me money now and I will deliver this later', that's the stuff they need to deliver on. Up until then, it's the same thing as teaser trailers for movies and video games...

    PC's Chased - Skill/Combat Challenge

Seems like a good way to handle a pretty classic scene - having just watched 3:10 to Yuma last week, I can imagine something like that playing out. A few thoughts: I'm not a huge fan of giving them two options and saying 'you have to do this'. Perhaps present those as two good choices, but...

Looking for a Game in Upstate NY

I'm looking to find a game in Upstate New York - in the Watertown area. I would prefer a 4E game - really itching to play 4E - but I would also be interested in 3.5, and I might be convinced to look at other systems as well. Not really interested in DMing at the moment, but that could change -...

    Strangest media influence?

I don't get to play this character until next week, but... We're going to be starting a Monte Cook's World of Darkness game next week. For those unfamiliar, there's been a cataclysmic event and among the side effects is that magic has now reentered the world. A lot of rituals people have been...

    What Do Gamers Eat?

Right now, I'm only gaming online (live groups - the one thing I miss about college). So, I've had actual dinners, though I'm the only person partaking. But during live games I've had... -Pizza. Numerous times. -Burgers, dogs, chicken fingers, fries, onion rings, etc. Typical fast food...

As the good WOTC employees get fired...check this out

Yes. I'm aware. The world is unfair, and it'd be a much better place if toy company executives did not take massive bonuses and instead took just enough to feed their families, and did everything in their power to make sure everyone on the planet got to eat three square meals a day and got...

As the good WOTC employees get fired...check this out

Yes, shame on those people. Taking as much as their bosses are willing to pay them, when there are people out there that don't make as much. It's *capitalism*. Stop being shocked and angry. If you want to be angry, be angry with Adam Smith. Or Karl Marx for not having very good marketing...

As the good WOTC employees get fired...check this out

Obviously, you're not giving us anywhere near a full financial statement. But, if they're earning somewhere around 2-3 times as much per employee as the competition, then, umm... yeah, I guess they are really smart guys who deserve what they're making. Particularly if all the stuff that you...

To RP Game Players/Gamemasters -- What is Fun? What is Unfun?

Fun: -Relative balance at all levels of play for characters. Our 3.5 games tended to be low-level affairs (don't know that I ever played above level 10, personally, and we rarely got above level 5 or 6), and I rarely played wizards because of it. -Heroic PCs. More of a setting issue than a...

    Why isn’t ____ personally involved?

That made me chuckle. Quite a bit. Beating up other 1st level commoners and the occasional 2nd level warrior is great for getting from level 1 to maybe level 3 for NPCs. Beyond that, tough to get enough XP to keep moving forward without going after either big groups who will eventually roll...

    Why isn’t ____ personally involved?

"She needs your help, Luke. I need your help. I'm getting too old for this sort of thing."

    Simulating D&D4E

A second wind is 'spontaneous regeneration' if your hit points are 'the orc stabs you in the arm and you take six damage'. If everything causes serious physical harm, then yes, being able to take a deep breath and be all better is a difficult concept. If hit points are more about getting the...

The proper role of supporting NPCs?

Generally, I like the PCs to be *the* heroes of my campaign - while there are certainly other powerful forces for good out there, the players should be in the center of all the action, and never watching. Things I try to keep in mind include... 1) Don't let NPCs step in and save the PCs...

    3e:Baseball::4e:Football

As a fan of baseball and 4E, I have to say... I like this analogy. Baseball/3E are all about the individual. Only a few major stats in baseball depend on getting any help from your teammates, particularly from an offensive standpoint - RBI and Runs, and both are heavily dependent on individual...

    DDI for $7.95

Well worth it for the magazines alone. Hopefully, if they decide to jack the price up later for additional content (IE, all the other stuff they've been promising), they'll still offer this as an option for folks who want the magazines only. Seems reasonable to me, anyway... keep a lot of...

    Why Play A Cleric?

Perhaps your cleric, while devoted to his god, isn't as much of a fan of the god's church. This could be for any number of reasons - difference of opinion on church dogma, corrupt priests, or a feeling that just worshiping the god doesn't do enough. Or, maybe serving as a priest requires a...

Does an ENWorld poll correlate to the Amazon rating?

Amazon may have a broad market, but I wouldn't expect there to be a significant number of people who aren't interested in D&D reviewing the PHB. Unless they're really, really bored. I'm also not surprised that the response here is more 4s and 2s than 5s and 1s, for a couple reasons. As...
