Article on Wired.com poking fun at gamers

No, nobody will self-identify, because nobody thinks they sound that stupid when they're posting. However, I think most people will recognize somebody else's posts in there, even with any exaggeration (and from what I've seen recently, there's actually very little exaggerating going on there).

Marketing: How would you have done it?

First off, I wouldn't have tied 4th Edition with the DDI. That's two brand new things, and if either one flops, it reflects poorly on the other. DDI got a lot of criticism because of the decision to kill Dragon and Dungeon, and that that bled over onto 4th Edition. Also, how many people did...

For real this time: What is your stance on 4e

As I've said before... I love everything I'm seeing in 4E and I'm really looking forward to playing in a week or so. However, I'm still willing to play 3.5 if that's what folks I game with opt for. But I don't see myself *running* a 3.5 game again - 4E all the way when I DM.

A new 4e poll please be honest

Love the way it looks, looking forward to playing and running it in a week and a half or so, but I'd still play 3.x if that's what someone was running. Don't think I'd *run* 3.5 again unless 4E winds up being really, really bad in play, which I don't see happening.

Bard 7 path to Arcane Trickster

Snag a level of Spellthief (Complete Adventurer). Get half your sneak attack in one level, and grab the rest with a level of Rogue or something else. Then, pick up the Master Spellthief feat from Complete Scoundrel. Both Bard and Arcane Trickster levels will stack for your steal spell class...

D&D 3E/3.5 How has the 4e announcement helped your 3.5 stash?

I picked up a variety of stuff for pennies from Amazon sellers when 4E was announced. Most of it won't get a lot of use unless I wind up playing with folks who are 3.5-only, but Heroes of Horror and, to a lesser extent, Heroes of Battle have a lot of advice for any edition, and really any...

Best creative use of an obscure or "weak" spell?

Well, we've had two sessions so far of a little gestalt one-shot. Our wizard/archivst focuses on primarily on summoning, but she's also got illusions and some utility spells. So far, she's done a few points of damage with her summoned creatures. However, she's managed to force a bunch of...

    Multiclass characters: Class overload?

Actually, to expand this analogy a bit, it'd be like asking a team of beer league softball players who, say, teach philosophy or physics or any such subject to play an MLB Hall of Fame squad (so, we've got Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Sandy Koufax, Walter Johnson... your best team possible), and...

    Halfling wizard evoker..

Skirmish would work for any attack if you move 10 feet that round. I wouldn't recommend Cleric, as one level would add almost nothing. d8 hit die is nice, but the armor is useless, the spells are ok but nothing you can't live without, and you wouldn't get any extra skill points. I'm a fan of...

    Multiclass characters: Class overload?

I'm a multiclass addict... currently playing a Ranger 3/Barbarian 1/Fighter 1/Warblade 1/Horizon Walker 1 at level 7. We just leveled. I'm thinking Fighter for improved crit... but I may add another class to shore up the reflex or will saves... Lets dig through my current and retired PC list...

    Front-liners

Well, it isn't high level (level 4 gestalt), but a player in my game is currently doing the high defense/tank role. He was trying to decide if he wanted to go the polearm route or the sword and board route when I made a silly suggestion that actually works... Use a Small-sized spear (or other...

    Ideas for 20th level character?

Well, obviously, it depends on what sort of character you'd like to play. You mentioned a rogue, but, of course, there are numerous types of rogue. The following advice is based on a rogue going with melee combat (one of my personal favorites), and I'll try to stick to the stuff that's...

    Who was right

Those two statements make me chuckle.

    Can Duskblades do this?

And afterwards, he's a third level fighter... with no bonus feats. And probably light armor. That parts seems fair, at least, unless the party is doing one encounter per day and that's it... in which case putting some time limits in to push them will help. As for the rest of it... Quick Cast...

    Who was right

You invested money in something that is used in a manner that may lead to its own destruction through regular use. Yes, you were using it for the good of the group, but that doesn't mean they owe you for it. When you buy a car, what do you do? You get it insured. Why? Because using a car...

    Who was right

Actually, I think most courts would find that, through assumption of risk, your opponents were not liable for any damages you incurred. A reasonable person would know that, when entering combat, there is a distinct threat to life, limb, and property, particularly when said property is being...

    Why Fighter/Mage?

Well, Fighter/Mage (I'll use the word for Wizards and Sorcerers, since both are viable) types are big because there's so much difference between them. A Fighter/Rogue isn't a big difference... its a pair of physical combat classes. The two get features that naturally compliment each other -...

    MIC - Forehead palm

This is certainly true, although it'd be completely possible for a DM to just add bits of the MIC in as treasure or as something for sale without opening up the whole book. If you do open the whole book, you need to expect a bit of a shift, with the multitude of x/day use items. But like I...

    MIC - Forehead palm

Wait... so doesn't that meant that information about what happens in a given situation can be easily and quickly divined just by reading the description? That really doesn't seem poorly written at all. And yes, some things in MIC are not the best bargains for their price. However, in most...
