Why all the Second Edition Haters?

I think many people seem to have selective memories about 2e days. I'm definately in the category of 2e hater. Here's some of the things I remember from the bad old days. 1) Terribly broken and unbalanced rules. 3e has a lot of unbalanced elements but this is no where near the abomination that...

Dealing with a sorceror with insane AC (3.0e)

Why don't you try touch attack type spells and effects? ie grapple, inflict wounds, harm, ghoul touch etc etc.

    I had a D&D moment today...

When I was planning for an adventure, I was looking at making a Druid villain NPC. Just a few hours later, while having lunch, someone was talking about the damage his car took from the hail storm we had last night, the first thing I said was "But Ice Storm only does 5d6 so it can't do that much...

Balance... does it really matter that much to you?

Balance is important to me as a DM because if the core rules are balanced to begin with then my workload to ensure that every member of the party has fun is greatly reduced. I don't have to worry about tailoring my adventure and story line to fit the particular weaknesses of the system to ensure...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Good 8th Level Wizard Spells?

Don't use the offensive spells for 8th level. As you correctly surmised most of them are only slightly better than 1 year old cow feaces. The divination school has all good spells for this level as does abjuration, except for Prismatic Wall. Offensively a couple of acceptable choices are...

    3.5 SRD project

Does anyone know if the latest epic level srd additions/corrections has been updated in Soveliors? If not how does one help in the maintainence of the Soveliors SRD?

What's the best direct-damage spell to use against a foe with uber saving throws?

You could try Bead of Karma, Good domain power, Spell Enhancer (Players Guide to Faerun) and 3 Orange Ioun stones for a Holy Word that will kill everything within 40 feet. that is equal to or lower than your level. No saving throw involved.

Help me swing my players away from clerics

I feel your pain. I have a group with all divine spellcasters as well (druids and clerics). The worst thing is that you can't just ban the class because clerics have a monopoly on healing (not just HP healing either) and a party needs this ability. The core balancing assumption that 3.0 & 3.5...

    Combat Cleric

Don't forget to get a bead of karma and an orange ioun stone as soon as u can cast 7th level spells.

    Clerics? Pontificate!

You're making the critical mistake of assuming that there is only ever going to be 1 cleric in the party.

    Area of Firestorm: Clarification wanted

Firestorm is indeed an impressive spell. I wonder if anyone noticed that it's a divine damage spell and it's better than delayed blast fireball.

Limited spellcasting: Only every other level. Effect?

I think this is an excellent idea. Mind you the main classes you would be nerfing isn't actually wiz/sorcs. It would be clerics and druids. As long as you allow PrCs like Spell Sword, Arcane Archer, Dragon Disciple, Eldritch Master I think your arcane spellcasters wouldn't feel too nerfed. After...

How do I inject courtroom drama to my game?

Courtroom adventure are an excellent idea and there is a definately a possibly for some fun there. I have run a courtroom based adventure before and here are some of my experiences: 1) Make the trial itself central to the adventure but space the action evenly between courtroom advocacy and...

Rumors from Player's Guide to Faerun

I can't think of any arcane spells worth using Persistant Spell on. Wizards have less spells/day than clerics so losing a high level slot actually hurts. Losing a high level slot for a relatively minor effect from a low level spell hurts even more. Divine Favour's stackable +6/+6 however is...

Rumors from Player's Guide to Faerun

Divine Favour is the only spell worth using with Persistant Spell now. Says alot about how good cleric spells are doesn't it? Even after a nerf, it's still worth it just for Divine Favour. Wish I could say the same for arcane spells.

Duration of Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, etc.

When the sorcerer doesn't have invisibility, when the whole party is trying to bypass an obstacle stealthily. +2 for PC may not be much but +2 for most members of the party? +2 stacking with the sorcerer's familiar bonus, or an elven sorcerer's cloak of elven kind?

Duration of Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, etc.

The old duration allowed them to be used for something other than combat. Therefore it didn't matter that the status bonus didn't grant extra spells. What use are they with the new durations?

Duration of Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, etc.

I don't know what games you guys are playing but "objectively" speaking, I wouldn't even use the pages used for printing the new buff spells for toilet paper. What is a use of a short duration Int, Wis or Cha booster? The major use of those spells were to boost your non combat situation rolls...

D&D 3E/3.5 Is Sorcerer the weakest 3.5 base class now?

Eagle's Splendor was only an example. The 3.0 version allowed you to multi empower it allowing a sort of scaling with level. Now past a certain level it's worthless. Take for example Invisibility. In 3.0 the sorcerer could use it to scout and spy and do other interesting things with it. Now with...

D&D 3E/3.5 Is Sorcerer the weakest 3.5 base class now?

I'm not saying that wizards aren't affected. Sure they are but sorcerers are affected even more than wizards. The reason is because the stat buffs, Invisibility and Polymorph, in 3.5, cannot be used for non combat purposes thus sorcerers have to eat into their spells known repertoire in order to...
