    magic domain

The as a wizard of half cleric level really only affects 2 things, activation of scrolls and whether to substitute caster level for item level for staves. Once the items are activated/used the caster level of the spell generated from the item are affected by the items themselves not the Magic...

Design the best well rounded party of 4

Cleric focused on Magic and Travel. Cleric focused on Luck and Trickery. Cleric focused on War and Strength. Druid.

About the myth or fact (?) of needing magical items

Yes, this is fine. The CR system is suppose to make the DM's work easier. To that end it assumes certain things like magical items etc. However you don't have to follow this and do your own thing and the way you described how you go about it is fine to me. Hence if magical items ups the strength...

    why are wizards so weak?

The reason why wizards are weak is because spellcasting is the only thing they can do and in 3.5 they got nerfed into the ground. Metamagic feats are have also been nerfed into the ground. The only way they can be viable is if the DM gives them special treatment.

Why no love for WotC? (and why now?)

3.5 enough said. Their recent product run haven't been that great either. Frostburn, Sandstorm, Complete Series (except for Complete Adventurer), Heros of Battle have ranged from less than ordinary to hideous. Their only book that was good after 3.5 (the only one I bought) was Unearthed Arcana...

D&D 2 Movie Preview at Gen Con!

OMG. Would someone please stop the abomination from being born! :( Don't they realise that making a movie about a game system is a horrible mistake? Please do something more productive. Make a gay romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock and Natalie Portman please. It would be less spewtastic than...

    Dragonlance, do you like it?

There are elements of the world that jarringly interferes with verisimilitude. One of these is the way evil characters openly declare that they are evil (eg Black Robe Wizards, Knights of Neraka). This reduces the potential for intrigue, plot twists and such. Whilst the WoHS are an interesting...

"Tactics in Action"--maybe I'm just getting too old, but this sounded boring as hell.

You're right, it's not that great. For 5 level 16-17 people a CR 20 creature is actually appropriate challenge in my view not overly difficult. Did you notice that 99% of the spells that turned the battle are cleric spells? The article said that one the significant contributor was the wizard...

Has anything ever broken your game?

How about the fact that they completely messed with arcane spells? Since sorcerers can't do anything else but cast spells, the character was broken beyond repair. I also normally don't bend over backwards to ensure that the encounters are suited to any one particular character but in the case...

    Roles within a party...

Both clerics and druids can also fulfill the roles of magic artillery. In fact they can fulfill the roles of everything on your list except trap-dealing.

Has anything ever broken your game?

3.5. The moment I introduced it, our sorcerer became unplayable. The cleric and druid climbed exponentially in power such that no other classes are played.

Party without arcane or healing spells...

The loss of arcane power is trivial. Since arcane spells got nerfed into the ground in 3.5 I see arcane casters as excess fat in a party that can easily be done away with. Loss of divine spell power is critical. The whole game is designed around having at least 1 primary divine spellcaster in...

    I am a homebrew snob

Or most importantly time. I don't know about you guys but I have work, family and friends commitments that are just as important to me, if not more so, than DMing. I do agree though that most of the published materials out there are verging on rubbish (although Eberron materials aren't bad) due...

Mourning the loss of my familiar

The familiar is a game feature to penalise sorc/wizs. Don't worry like most people, you got sucked into believing that a familiar is actually anything other than a couple of crappy feats. You're better off without one anyway.

    Are spell DC's too low?

Yes, right I forgot. Sorc/wiz always know what is the most effective spell to prepare/know at any point in time right? Wizards will always somehow have access to the right spells, have thousands of gold and plenty of downtime to learn every single spell that might be useful. Sorcs also have...

    Are spell DC's too low?

It depends on whether the DM molly coddles the players or not. If the DM doesn't and consistently challenge the PCs with appropriate CR monsters then the wiz/sorcs players might as well retire their characters and start another character. However if your DM goes out of his way to ensure that his...

    Stormrage (complete divine)

It's a druid spell. It's ok for it not to have SR because druids are meant to have the best spells.

Andy Collins speaks - Spell Compendium

Why do I get the feeling that this book will be filled to the brim with unfixed, broken divine spells that will be abused throughly by clerics and druids?

RPG systems you liked -- much to your surprise

D&D 3.0. I thought that the new d20 system would be like a disaster like Players Options: Crap and More Crap. Thankfully it wasn't. Unfortunately they have to spoil it all with D&D 3.5.

Worst RPG System You Ever Palyed?

AD&D (2e), D&D 3.5 and Shadowrun 3.0. Gouging the customer for more money under the guise of an "improved" system whilst producing a crappier, more error prone system than the original just doesn't sit well with me.
